Blood Tears Symbolism

recently while watching H2 with the Dick Warlock commentary, he mentioned that the blood tears scene is fairly symbolic, and also a fan-favorite…however, Warlock himself didn’t much care for it. Anyway, my take on it is that it hints at an underlying sadness to Michael…obviously the tears are there, and I can’t think of what else it might mean. In particular maybe he feels sad because he will never really connect with his sister Laurie. Any other ideas?

Billy Kirkus explained that in the original draft when Laurie has the flashback of reuniting with young Michael, the camera cuts to a close up of the Rag doll she’s holding and it starts tearing with blood. Probably a metaphor for Laurie’s sadness and Michael’s rage. This scene was originally suppose to connect with the final climax when Laurie says" Michael??" and then shoots him. This removed scene explains why he had blood tears.

I do remember that now…which makes sense. Thanks for reminding me. As for Michael’s rage…what’s the cause? Obviously he’s angry about being institutionalized for 15 years, but why kill Judith in the first place? Sexual jealousy? Maybe total madness or a kind of possession of evil that would make sense considering the occultic suggestions of the later films. Anyway, I’m just throwing those questions out there, I bet there is not one right answer…

Interesting stuff guys, shame they removed the blood tears on the doll :sunglasses:

It symbolizes he got shot in the face with a gun.

That’s deep man lol Thanks for my Sunday morning laugh!

Agreed. I laughed out loud at work.

I was gonna say that too but…

He got shot in the eyes…enough said.

Yes, and that was clearly heavy-handed and contrived…or did you know that Laurie Strode was a sharpshooter?

Don’t think she was a sharpshooter as much as she was three feet away with an enormous hand cannon

Even so, not likely. There’s not even any logical reason she’d be shooting for the eyes, let alone any real possibility she’d hit her targets. Clearly this was a symbolic and aesthetic gesture.

My guess is. Hey wouldn’t it look cool if he got shot in the face and blood came out his eyes? Yea that’s cool. Ok let’s do that then

Clearly this was a symbolic and aesthetic gesture! Really, You are digging Toooo deep! She shot , and landed his eyes, Great shot Laurie

What is it with some people being obsessed with “bleeding” wherever nowadays ?

As far as a reason for his rage…he’s the Boogeyman. Enough said. The mystery has always been a huge part of the appeal imo. Diggin deep for reasons is too Rob Zombie for me. I definitely didn’t care for the whole Thorn thing either…He’s the Boogeyman.

Sure, it looks cool, there’s no doubt about that…but those are tears…like you know, people cry when they’re sad. Think maybe there’s the suggestion Michael was sad? To be honest that’s not what I would call digging deep…

Sounds like u got it all figured out. No need for the thread
