Bob Weinstein considers Halloween II a success

It is still very possible for this movie to make a major profit on DVD. Recent studies have proved movies that don’t perform as well as expected at the cinema is mostly because people will hold out for the DVD. For example Serenity was a failure at the cinema but sold over 2 million DVD’s and with rentals and TV rights it made $60 million. Film companies don’t have to spend a lot on marketing the DVD because they already have the material in the can and can rehash the trailers, tv adverts, online adverts and behind the scenes footage leading up to the DVD release. Also the current trend of “Unrated” DVD versions have been met with people holding out for the DVD in order to see the real movie instead of forking money out twice. If H2 were to go straight to DVD overseas for example it could recoup a lot of its money back from DVD sales alone.

No offense to (thewholeshow) but I have a cousin in the business that knows a guy that has been to rob zombies house on a wednesday of last month and he said in an email that was in my spam folder that it cost less than that. Sorry, but it’s hard to believe somethings that you say. Im sure you are speaking the truth but you can see why Goul is questioning you.

He can question all he wants, but when the facts (…and they were) put infront of him, he needs to swallow the pill and take it like a man. MY facts ARE true, I could care less if he believes it, they’ve all been proven right thus far. Right down to the quote from TWC themselves regarding the marketing budget. That that’s 20+ million in MARKETING ALONE, not including distribution costs to theaters across the nation.

So, you have to include SHOOTING COST, MARKETING COST, DISTRIBUTION COST and then THAT is your total cost to make the film.

I have a feeling they didn’t spend a lot marketing this sequel. I think that quote of $20 million was from Weinstein referring to the original and horror remakes in general. Obviously distribution costs etc are standard but the marketing was minimal on this movie and the proof (or lack of it) is all around. So again I would reckon it was no where near that figure.

I was told otherwise, but some of you guys tend to follow the routine of denying everything that you’re told because it doesn’t follow your hopes and dreams of this movie doing well. You guys can think what you’d like, and I’ll stick with believing the VP of the biggest entertainment company on this planet LOL !

Great!! Then can You do me a favour? Can You ask the VP for any of the release dates for Halloween II overseas please

LOL ! I would buddy, but I’m in Toronto right now, and he’s back in Orlando for the rest of the week. He just had major back surgery and he’s very limited in mobility as you can imagine. He’s in good shape after the surgery and he’s holed up in his 1.3 million dollar condo on Siesta Key…thus I don’t feel TOO bad for him =)

Somebody was put in their place in this thread. And it wasn’t thewholefknshow.

LOL @ Darkly!

It’s funny man, because I’m only trying to help with people’s questions and facts etc, but you get the same negative response from those who’s g-strings are too tight in regards to this movie. I’m not even trying to be a dick or anything, I’m just helping with answers and facts. But then, that’s what you get for trying to help LOL !

I love that people are arguing with TWC on THEIR OWN WORDS LOL ! THAT is funny. And like Bob said, they made back the shooting cost, but the shooting vost is only a small part of the BUDGET for the entire film. That was Bob’s ‘spin’ to save face, and rightfully so. In business, he did the right thing by saying it the way he said it.

Thewholefknshow, thanks for the insight on the movie costs. I never expected H2 to do that well anyways, but I certainly enjoyed it. Zombie’s film-making is different from a lot of stuff out there, so there isn’t as much support for it as there is the more highly polished popular movies out there. Just like there are a lot of movie styles and genre’s out there that have a very small niche fanbase, doesn’t mean it’s shit, one man’s “shit” movie is another man’s favorite.

Well said brother!

i dont have an inner circle and im not a promoter but i do find it hard to believe that promotion and marketing costs of H2 was 20 mil, i dont know.
the remake pulled roughly 19.2 million overseas and 37.3 miliion in dvd sales so reguardless of promotion costs i cannot see how they are going to end up in the red on this.
i mean there have been alot movies that havent done as well as H2 that didnt put the company in the minus on it. if 30 million is in the whole then several studios would have already went under.

Embodied,

A studio won’t go under for the loss on one movie, but TWC are in deep water over alot of things. This loss isn’t helping things persay, but it won’t be the nail in TWC coffin.

To give some of you guys who clearly don’t understand marketing WHAT-SO-EVER (GHOUL) I work in Radio, a much smaller scale of entertainment than that of motion pictures. I also do the TV thing as well, but I’ll use the second smallest of all mediums for entertainment as my example here.

For my radio station to buy billboard space in the city of Toronto for ONE MONTH, it costs our outdoor media division 2 millions dollars. And some of you guys are trying to tell me with a straight face that a MAJOR motion picture, to market and promote on PRINT, RADIO, TV AND BILLBOARDS in BOTH the USA AND Canada, cost only 3 million dollars LMFAO ?!? Some of you are living on Fantasy Island with Ricardo Montolban and that little dude that see’s the plane LOL!

It would be best at this point for some of you to stick to commenting on how much you liked the film and leave everything else to those who ‘get it’ 2-3 million…wow, that’s some comical shit right there.

Embodied, this post was in no way intended for you, you’re a cool cat in my book 110%. Some of the others, not so much.

hey bro I wasn’t trying to ruffle your feathers. Its just that you seemed to come like a bat out of hell from nowhere spouting out all these specs and stats and again…some of the stuff you were saying I had heard differently and that was coming from people in the film industry. Im not going to change my mind BUT I’ll respect what you say. You’d have to be a complete lunatic to make all this shit up.
That being said I do think you have a little bit of an anti slant and thats fine as well. What would your contacts and bosses think of you leaking all this info that you get through the wire so to speak? Ive never seen anyone who is on “the inside” make so much information public.
I haven’t revealed my sources because I was part of private conversations and meetings and I dont go talking unless Im told its ok.

and “darkly” I love how people can have informative exchanges but your contribution (if we can call it that) as usual is just acting the fool. Keep it up you’re getting so good at it.

GHOUL,

No worries man. I don’t work for TWC, and my other jobs have no bearing on my information about the film world either. I just have alot of contacts and close friends to my family and such that are friends with Harv and Bob personally for the better part of 2 decades. This information that I’m sharing isn’t private, it’s readily available if you know who to talk to.

I’m not giving away the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe here, just stating info that was given to me from people on the inside. Nobody has ever told me to not mention anything that I’ve been told, if they do, then so-be-it, but it hasn’t happened. I can appreciate that you know people in the business, but I’m getting my info from people on the inside of THIS situation. My guy has been friends with H&B for a long time, and he would have no reason to lie to me what-so-ever. Most 50 yr old multi-millionaires have better things to do than to lie to me on multiple occasions about the entertainment business.

Not to get in the middle of this…but, Darkly may have posted a few things that were sarcastic or humorous here and there, but his “usual” “contribution[s]” are hardly what I would describe as being foolish. Nor would I classify them as uninformative in contributing to the overall dialogue of most threads. In fact, he’s one of the people (like me) who has been called out and chastised for; writing TOO much, being too detailed, providing too much information, and generally writing posts that some members consider to be too verbose. Go back and look at some of his older posts and you’ll see it’s true; they’re usually pretty lengthy, well-written, intelligent, and constructive (even if they aren’t received that way). Like this post, for example;

So, to classify his overall contributions as “fool[ish]” is hardly accurate, I think. Just my two cents…

gotcha…btw whats that documentary about the Weinsteins and the writer of Boondock Saints? do you know what Im talking about? H and B come across like lunatics supposedly.
note*-I looked it up…its called OVERNIGHT. Sounds like a good watch!

Haven’t seen that one.

Dr Wynn…he’s a big boy he doesnt need a lawyer. He chimed in on this thread with a post that had no purpose what-so-ever than to instigate. Im sure you saw it. This kind of thing gets annoying and you know what? if he is intelligent most of the time? it becomes like the boy who cried wolf.
Thats not the first time he’s tried to get my goat but it was the least veiled. It was a useless and elementary post.

Never said I was his lawyer…nor did I claim to be acting in such capacity. Just making an observation, dude. Sorry it rubbed you the wrong way.
