Bootleg Michael Myers Rehaul to practice

Hey, so as you know lately I’ve been toying with liquid latex in the hope of perhaps reworking my Boogeyman, I’ve decided to buy a cheap Michael Myers mask on Amazon for just 10 bucks to torture with all the techniques I’ve learned before deciding whenever to do it on the Boogeyman or not.

This is what the mask looked like when it arrived, I have no words other than that I feel sorry for the kids that wanna be Michael for Halloween, they see the mask online, it looks decent, they order it and they get this

This is like… if a Diglett wore a Michael mask or something like that, anyway, serves it purpose.

I’ve redone the eyecuts in the hope of making it look a bit less derpy and more menacing, added the glue lines with bostik superglue, 3 coats of white acrylic / liquid latex / water with a sponge, 1 paintover with pink acrylic mixed with with acrylic and liquid latex under the neck, 3 black washes (at this point I didn’t use any latex) plus smeared a bit of a grey/brown/water mix with a cloth and also smudged with my fingers like they would grab the mask on set with dirty hands, lastly I used the same grey/brown mix on a q-tip and basically went over all the face details (brows, mouth, sideburns etc) and I’ve also passed the black wash on the hair with a brush to darken it up and style what could be styled (not much  )

This is the result:

Watch the video, these images really don’t capture the details: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yGWcZsWCVw5j5IlMTsrWklJxdvrD-oTV/view?usp=sharing

So, final thoughts, despite the mask being what it is (a polished turd is still a turd), I think it looks much better than before, and I am proud of all the detail, I think it’s pretty much how i’d like a rehaul of a 78 mask to be, not too prevalent to the point that it’s painted but still enough that it makes it pop.

The downside is that I still can’t get this base coat right even with a sponge, it came out very inconsistent, patchy, and even after waiting a bit, when I did the other passes of it some lumps formed, I’m still not there yet.

So in the end, since I had still a bit of that grey/brown mix I went and just painted the nose of my boogeyman to cover the missing paint spot (it had like a completely white spot right on the tip of the nose, I think some of the gloss paint came off there).

I don’t think I’m gonna rehaul it, not yet since I know that if it came as patchy it would drive me crazy, I need to get good at this first, but for now, this is a decent fix.
