Cap. Kirk or Devil's Rain?

Right, I’m very confused as to which masks were used in Halloween, Halloween II and Halloween 4.

I thought it was:
Halloween/H II: “The Devil’s Rain” William Shatner mask.
Halloween 4: “Captain Kirk” William Shatner mask.

But people talk about the Cap. Kirk mask like it’s the original. Any help?

There is no such thing as ‘the Devil’s Rain mask’. The life cast they (Don Post Studios) used to create the original Captain Kirk mask came from when he did Devil’s Rain. A ‘life cast’ is a three-dimensional copy of a face, through the use of molding and casting techniques. The standout feature of life casts is their high level of realism and detail. Lifecasts can replicate details as small as fingerprints and pores. They are most often used in make-up and spfx work in films. They have also been used by mask companies and artists to create masks with specific likenesses for years and years.

H1/H2 was the Don Post Kirk mask. People confuse this look from Devil’s Rain:

As the mask or piece used in HalloweeN when it was not. This confusion is stated as fact through out the internet on several web sites. The only full head, rubber mask of Captain Kirk (or to have the Shatner likeness) produced back then was by Don Post Studios.

So essentially, Halloween and Halloween 4 started out as the same mask?

And isn’t that John Travolta in your picture?

I don’t know much about Halloween 4 but I think it’s been determined the mask wasn’t an original Kirk mask.

I pasted the wrong image  .

Wow, i’ve never seen this before!

And here is Shatner’s lifecast from, I’m assuming, the time that Devil’s Rain was produced.
This lifecast has been around…

I also assume Bill Malone (or whoever it was) tweaked this lifecast a bit, sculpted eyes, and produced the now infamous Capt. Kirk Mask…
Perhaps Billy, or someone else who has more knowledge about this can pipe in…

Wasn’t the whole controversy with the H4 mask that Kirk’s people threatened to sue if they used his likeness so they sculpted a mask not based on his facecast and the masks just got worse from there until H20. None of the masks after H2 were Kirk masks.

Had nothing to do with lawsuits or threats.
This was told by Don Post himself to me.
The producers of H4 contacted Don with the intention of buying Kirk masks to use in H4.
Don Post told them fine but they (DPS) were in the middle of the halloween season production and they(H4 producers) would have to wait until the season was over so the mold could be dug out of storage and the copies they need were made. The producers agreed.
Approximately a month went by and the producers of H4 became impatient and started calling DP to demand their (Fing Kirk masks.
Don does not like to be pushed and basically told them they aren’t going to get their (F
ing) Kirk masks and hung up on them.
The producers then made their own mask for the filming.

Interesting, not heard this before, Thanks for the info.

I’d still like to know the exact origins of the H4 mask. Billy told us a while ago he was working on an article with proof behind the origins, but I haven’t seen anything since. :frowning:

Sadly, that article will probably never see the light of day; some of the info is conflicting with other people I talked to about the mask and it’s origins. But that is a completely different topic but related to this one so instead of getting on peoples bad sides digging up dirt of almost 20 plus years ago I just won’t release that info. I have a theory of what was used for the “Halloween 4” mask. A full DPS 75 Kirk, I don’t think so…but something else with “Kirk” origins and enlarged and modified, and that is what basically gives that mask a "Kirk-y’ feel, absolutely.

Wow, that’s really unfortunate, Billy :frowning:

I bet it would have been a nice read. Is there any way (for those interested) to ever get ahold of some of that information? Or is it simply too likey to start a fued?

If people want to contact the people I talked to and ask them the questions I asked and post it, that is their business. All it took was some simple Google searches and sending out a few emails to see if I was on the right trail. Most of what I uncovered started going into a legal issues and “he said this and I said this” and I felt that it was not part of my business or anyone else’s. No one had direct facts that concluded without a doubt what was used in “Halloween 4”; that is why I have a theory of what was used. I’m not a paid reporter and what “if” I brought all of what I found out public? You would still have people doubt the info and make their own assertions anyway. So that is where I left it. Sometimes not knowing is better…people change and so do their stories even when you show them their own words in print.
