Is nick castles mask a different mask of James Jude Courtney’s mask?
Sorry if I sound ignorant of this…
Or is it the same mask just different head types?
They each have their own mask, if that’s what you are asking. They are from the same molds. Makeup teams make several masks for movies. In the case of H18 several masks were made and Nick has one, James has one, typically the director and makeup designer will keep one. Theres plenty to go around, since some will be used for stunts, etc

Nope same mold. In fact, they stuffed the mask a variety of ways during filming because they liked having different looks in different scenes, much like the first film. At Michael confronts Laurie upstairs in H18 you can tell how they stuffed the mask to get a wide, puffy cheek look like Warlock had. Just a product of different head shapes with Nick and James

I really wish they would have used Castle for more of the film. It’s crazy, with all of the amazing sculpts out there (including this one), all it takes is for Castle to put the mask on and BAM, the shape is back. What a difference the shape of his head makes, it instantly transforms the look of mask to the Castle stretch look that we all know and love.

Nelson said they made Nick his own mask when he learned he was hired to be in the movie. I prefer Nick’s over James’ but I like both. I like how they all have different looks in the film, much like the original.
Nick had a mask that was thinner so it was more flexible, due to the different head shape. This is also the mask nick is holding in some photos including the Dr Pepper can shot. The mask nick owns now is the main hero mask that you see james wearing in the photo above, and throughout almost the entirety of the film.

I was under the impression that the mask that was given to Nick was the one that he himself wore in the film. Why would he have been given one of JJC’s masks instead of the one made for him specifically?

I believe it’s not on purpose. The mask looks very similar to one another, just different paint job. They could’ve accidentally switched it when they want to send the mask to Nick. And no i didn’t recommend to believe when Nick said it was the mask he worn. When he worn that mask for the mirror scene, the room is so dark and only has couple lamps. Considering his age, it’s hard to tell them apart, and he’s an actor…he didn’t study or analyze this mask, honestly i don’t think he even care which is which. If you see pictures or promo pictures that float around the internet, that is the one that Nick has but worn by JJC
He’ll be back in the sequels, and hopefully he makes more of a longer appearance compared to 2018
The one of the left looks WAAAY better.
That top picture in the OP is amazing. Left has the H1 vibe and the right has the H2 vibe. Nick’s head just gives us that H1 look.
