I had the pleasure of talking to Chris Carnel for a couple of hours over the weekend at a horror convention in MD. Contrary to what someone previously stated, Carnel is not a “runner-up” to play Myers in Halloween 3D. Nobody has been cast in the role yet. Having said that, he would absolutely love to have the opportunity to don the mask for the new movie.
Chris told me that as soon as he learned Patrick Lussier was named director, he fired off an email to the director which stated that he would love to play the part. Lussier’s response was positive, but obviously it is way early in the process to know anything for sure.
In talking to Chris, it is clear that he wants Myers more than anything. He said to me “as much as you want your next breath, that is how bad I want to play Myers”.
I know there are a lot of supporters here for Tyler Mane, which there very well should be. I think Tyler did a great job with Myers, so please hold off the firing squad. That said, I have said all along that Tyler is just way too much of a hulk to portray Myers. Michael Myers should be someone that you would pass on the street without a second glance, someone who you would be shocked to know is the embodiment of evil…not someone who induces fear because of his amazingly huge frame.
I think Chris would kill the role. He is the perfect size at about 6 feet tall and has a lean athletic build, which is how I believe Myers should be. Chris also has the passion to play the part, and if you ever spend any time talking to him, he really appreciates his fans. I truly believe he would do a fantastic job and I’ll be happy to fire off an email to Malek and Patrick to express it. I don’t know if a little note from me will do a darn thing, but I will give it a shot just as well.

this guy sounds good and i love the way he talks, we may have our “classic” myers back once and for all! I loved Tyler’s portrayal, but yes way too big! My question was when he was casted for the part was “wow, he will make a great Myers, but what happens if they can’t get him back?” once you go TALL and LARGE, it’s hard to cast a new guy thats shorter because it looks weird
No, what looks weird is a giant of a man like Tyler mane playing Myers…that’s what looks weird. A restoration of size would be absolutely perfect in my book. I could never figure out why Rob wanted to make Myers like Jason in the first place. But that’s what he did.
I agree with getting “OUR” Myers look back with a shorter Myers…but im a sucker for continuity and if they continue with Rob’s storyline than having a 6ft tall guy now as Myers will be weird…since he was a GIANT in the first two.
I was never a fan of casting a HUGE Myers either and when he did i just said “what Happens when Tyler is done playing him?”

i also talked to chris carnel this weekend and he did say he was happy to hear patrick was directing because he may have a head up against the rest because he worked with patrick already as a masked character but he also said he heard tyler was signed on for a third film but he also said he would play any role myers, jason, freddy didnt matter to him
he did tell me his favourite role was when he doubled for otis in TDR
I have heard from my buddy Frank in LA, who has lots of friends in Myersland, that the next story will have nothing to do with the Rob Zombie stories. It will be a completely different scenario all together, as if the 2 RZ movies never happened. Sort of like what they did with H20. He is friends with Malek Akad and from what Frank told me this is gonna be something completely different. He did not know who would be playing Myers though. Personally I don’t think we will know anything for sure about the film or who is playing Myers for a while. Right now it’s just a bunch of rumors going round.
I think i’m going to have a family friend who’s a higher up Agent (has some big names) set me up with a meeting to pitch to TWC… Sounds crazy I know… but my treatment is light years ahead of anything that’s come out in this franchise for over 2 decades…
I’ve said that from the beginning, I never wanted a hulk to play Michael Myers. Then again I never wanted Rob Zombie to direct or for there to even be a remake. But having this huge Myers just took away from the character cause he’s suppose to be a normal sized person, that grew up in a normal, middle class family. All I can say is that it was an embarrassment at what was portrayed in the remake.
So I think if Chris Carnel has a passion to do it then let him cause I think he did a really good job as the Coal Miner in MBV. That way, it will give us our normal sized Myers back and maybe this next film will actually be worth something. I will admit, I’m just a little excited to hear that they will kind of start fresh, like the other 2 never existed. Now if they would just steer away from all this 3D crap I’d be even happier.
well it would be good for chris i felt bad for him because no one was coming up to his table if he plays myers next year his table would be swamped like derek mears table was
But regardless of continuity, Tyler Mane makes the best Myers since Nick Castle. He has a presence and a style of movement that nails the character IMO.
Thanks and I’d love to see it as well. I just hope it’s an actual passion for him to want to do this, not just another job to get a paycheck. But it sounds like he’s pretty serious about it though. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Did you get to see him at a convention somewhere? Yeah if he gets this part then I think things will change for him real quick.
