Closest thing to a real ‘75 don post kirk

Hey everybody…as the title says, what mask do you own that in your opinion resembles the most, a real 75 kirk? would you post some pictures? That would be great!!!
Oh, on a side note, I’m literally obsessed with that mask!! :scream:

So am I. Here’s my 98 Proto by NAG.

Man…that’s gorgeous!!! You’re right… It is really close to the real thing…something tells me I wouldn’t be able to afford one in a million years…assuming there still in production…
Anyway, thanks for sharing it. It made my day!!

No problem! From what I understand these were limited but who knows. There’s one on eBay I believe.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the 98 Proto created using an actual '75 Kirk? That alone would make it the most accurate, technically.

I think it was made using a laser scanned 75 kirk.

the kirk was never laser scanned, that’s been debunked

Ah i see.

I just checked…there is one on eBay! Of course it’s way out of my possibilities : ( amazing mask anyway!

Another great mask! These 3 that you guys posted, I must say, look a lot like the actual Kirk.
Thanks for sharing!!

I love this! Hair is great and it’s got lots of details…
Do you mind me asking what mask is this? I can’t keep up, it seems

I know I started this, but I’m loving this thread! ; )
Really great masks!!!

Thanks man! It’s the Prototype HMK Kirk. This one was the Guide Copy. The hair on it is supposedly 70’s Don Post hair.

All 3 of these masks used a real 75 kirk to make, these are the best replicas available!! Really awesome stuff man wish I had one!!

Ok, that’s basically spot on compared to the actual 75 kirks I’ve seen, holy fuck!

The 98 was NOT from a laser scan, that is correct. However, a laser scan was in fact utilized to make the mask that became the “99 Shatner.” You can confirm this yourself with Darren Perks who worked on it, as well as several other scanned masks for Don Post.

A direct quote from Darren:
“ A 98 foam tooling was scanned and enlarged (same as the Calendar’s). A silicone mold from it and a clay pour. I retooled the clay pour and this became the 99. The 98 is the closest Post had in their storage to the original 75.”

it is still funny to think what 3D printing would have been like had it existed in the 90’s not sure if you saw this thread too

I have seen that thread, and it’s in reference, again, to the 98. The 98 was NOT produced from scan. We all know this already.
The 99 however, WAS in fact from a scan. The problem comes from people confusing the two masks.

Indeed, if they had access to the printing and scanning technologies we have today, our whole hobby would be very different. Unfortunately the CNC technologies used left sculptures that needed heavy reworking. But then, Nik has a very good scan of the 98 Proto and still we don’t have the “perfect” mask.
