After a few years of doing my thing every Halloween…the cops were finally called on me last night.
I’ll make it short…
I got in full gear…I sported the H6 this year…
anyway…walking around the neighborhood at approx 8pm eastern time…nice and dark here in NY.
I always use a combination of H1 H2 manurisms.
Well…people freaked
Was it the walking, body language, the knife???
Cops came to my house, someone must’ve seen my plate # when I got in my car…
I was told that multiple complaints were received of a suspicious individual walking around in a Micheal Myers outfit.
They warned me not to do it again…
Lol
So all in all…it worked. People got scared. I surely don’t want to freak anyone out or feel unsafe with their children…
So…had I walked around normally, head back and forth. shoulders relaxed etc…would they have been spooked? I don’t think so…
Looking for it in the police blotter…gotta frame this one.
Great job dude. I am sorry the few worry warts called the cops on you. I went out for the first time as Michael last night and no problem. Had the Lamson as well.
Glad you had fun but sucks the cops got called. I only had it happen once and that was the last time I ever brought my Dirtknap outside the house, I stick with foam now
That’s ridiculous, you’re allowed to dress up on Halloween. Pricks. They think they’re hot stuff because of their badge. Hope you don’t let it bother you.
Geez, that sucks. What I don’t understand is why people would call the cops on a guy dressed as Michael Myers, or any scary character or killer, ON HALLOWEEN. I could understand them doing it if it was at any other time of the year, because then it would be suspicious, but on Halloween!? Some people, man. They might as well call the cops on little kids dressed up trick or treating. “Yes officer, there’s a group of strange children wearing costumes carrying candy bags in my neighborhood”
He hasn’t stated yet, but if he had too realistic a prop I can see it
I was quite frustrated when I sat talking to the police for 45 minutes 2 Halloweens ago as it was in my own neighborhood, but they explained to me the Dirtknap Lamson was too realistic and “some cops might shoot before asking questions”. Insanity to me as well as this is a time of year when we can all let loose and dress up however we’d like, but I’ve been fearful enough to never bring the Dirtknap out of my own yard again! I just bring a TOTS foam knife if I go walking the streets
This is kinda what’s preventing me from getting a replicated knife. They’re great for display purposes but I’d want to use it whenever dressing up on Halloween and I’ve just heard too many stories of people getting hassled about them because they look too real. I wouldn’t want all that drama.
It’s funny I use to see people with these great outfits and wonder why they’re using these crappy looking huge fake knives, well now I know why.
Just be careful. Don’t wanna end up like Ben Tramer. It’s all fun, but seriously, there are some weird crazy people in this world and also equally some gun happy people. Some people just need a reason to think that their life was in danger. You see it all the time, unarmed people getting shot etc etc. It would be soooo easy for a crazy guy to put on a costume and “trick” only to find out they really are crazy. Gotta know how far to take it etc
Exactly my friend! Back when I got my first Dirtknap, Tim charged me $80. That was the knife that got the cops called on me 2 Halloweens ago. It is double the price now and I’d say twice as accurate. It truly is something amazing and I’d say worth the price just to have a knife that looks identical to the one used in H1 to display! It also makes for some great costume shots. But yeah when it comes to leaving the house, I just stick with foam for now. I debated weathering my TOTS but I don’t even want it looking too realistic. I guess if it reflects light, people assume it is real. And since the goal Tim set was to make it as real as possible I can definitely understand their concern. Don’t let them stop you from purchasing one though man! Nothing beats an amazing costume shot more than a realistic Lamson (or Elrod if you are going for H2!)
Damn, sorry to hear that. I got lucky last night. I did get stopped by a group after a while, but they weren’t hostile. Sucks the world we live in today is like that.
Damn, man. That sucks!! Sorry to hear that. Thankfully I didn’t have any issues last night dressed as Michael, but then again, I do have a broken leg and I probably wasn’t much of a threat just sitting on my porch. Surprisingly, the kids were still terrified! A lot of them wouldn’t come up to me since I was holding a knife (which was made out of foam), so I took it easy on the smaller ones and either put my knife down or rubbed it against my wrist so they could see it wasn’t sharp. About 50 kids took pictures with me last night, the most fun i’ve had on Halloween, and I was really depressed before yesterday saying that I wasn’t able to get out for the night because of my leg.
That’s basically what I was told.
“Don’t do it again,” they ( cops ) said.
So I responded, “Don’t do what? Walk around in a costume on Halloween?”
Then she ( lady cop, her guy partner stayed out of it,
never said a word,) got bitch and started to repeat herself. Then she got really mad when I said, “I heard you the first time.”
