Copycat killers

Has anyone ever heard of a person actually being so obsessed with Michael Myers and the movies to the level of actually killing people while wearing the “mask”?..I’m sure some sick f#ck has or will one day…

I’ve actually heard a story about someone doing that many years ago. It wasn’t any time recent but I do remember hearing about that happening.

I heard of a Jason CC killer. He killed some people in the woods and then hung himself!

I don’t know about killing anyone, but I do remember hearing a story about some guy that robbed a bank a couple years ago wearing a Myers mask.

On October 24, 1988, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, 18-year-old Mark Branch headed out in full Jason Voorhees fatigues. Mark wasn’t trick-or-treating early, however. No, Mark was on his way to kill Greenfield Community College freshman Psychology major Sharon Gregory.

Mark Branch was a known horror movie fanatic that was obsessed with the Friday the 13th film franchise. More specifically, he idolized the fictional Jason Voorhees, Camp Crystal Lake’s local hockey mask wearing, machete wielding boogeyman.

It is said that Mark murdered Sharon Gregory over a profile she had written about him. The two were supposed “friends.” Apparently, Gregory had found him fascinating and knew there was something “off” about Branch. This led to Branch wanting that written profile…by any means necessary. It all sounds like something ripped from a horror movie, and in a weird sort of way, it is.

Branch’s decision to attack Gregory dressed as Jason Voorhees led the town to speculate about what could possibly happen next. Branch immediately disappeared after murdering Gregory. Her body was found by her twin sister and Branch was an immediate prime suspect.

Police found Branch’s car a few miles away, parked on the exterior of a large forest. Gregory’s blood was found all over the car’s interior. A manhunt ensued. An abandoned slaughterhouse was found in the woods nearby where crude drawings on the walls indicated that Branch had been there very recently. One image, in particular, showed a hockey-masked killer chasing a woman up a set of stairs with a knife (the same way Sharon Gregory was killed).

The town was in such a state of panic that even the local movie theater pulled Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers from its screens, a slasher sequel that had only been released a couple days earlier. Authorities, grossly misguided, assumed Branch might show up to one of the screenings and enact his final act of mayhem.

It was all insane madness. Turns out, about a month after the crime, Branch’s lifeless body was found hanging in the woods, a mere 200 yards from the site of the abandoned slaughterhouse. A coroner would rule that Branch had likely taken his own life the same day as the murder.

This whole case is immensely fascinating and very troublesome. It most certainly sheds a negative light on the horror community and how obsessive fans can get. But don’t let the actions of Mark Branch on October 24, 1988, sway your opinion. This is obviously the case of a very disturbed young man who simply acted out in anger and merely used the Jason modus operandi as a means to an end.

:open_mouth: Yikes…

At first I thought this thread is about possible copycat killers in future Halloween movies. That would be a very bad idea.

Jeez :open_mouth:

I’m suprised some nut hasn’t dressed as Michael and went on a killing spree.

Crazy shit

In an upscale, gated community in Annetta South, Texas, evil lurks from within as 17-year old Jake Evans invokes Rob Zombie’s revamped classic Hollywood slasher flick, Halloween, in his homicidal quest to destroy his family.

A judge in Texas has released a teenage murder suspect’s confession, in which he says the 2007 film “Halloween, by heavy metal musician Rob Zombie.

Holy crap…I’m not surprised

I know that a few people have donned the mask to do some serious crimes, but I doubt they’re fans.

I’ve seen this story before. Really messed up :frowning:

Super pathetic.

I’ve heard about this one. He killed his family because he wanted to see what it felt like to be a cold-blooded murderer like Michael. He never wore a mask while he did it though if I’m not mistaken

However, I had never heard of the Voorhees copycat! That’s wild!

“Halloween II murders”

An incident with minor connections to the film heightened attitudes about the potent effects of media violence on young people. On December 7, 1982, Richard Delmer Boyer of El Monte, California, murdered Francis and Eileen Harbitz, an elderly couple in Fullerton, California, leading to the trial People v. Boyer (1989).

The couple were stabbed 43 times by Boyer. According to the trial transcript, Boyer’s defense was that he suffered from hallucinations in the Harbitz residence brought on by “the movie Halloween II, which defendant had seen under the influence of PCP, marijuana, and alcohol.” The film was played for the jury, and a psychopharmacologist “pointed out various similarities between its scenes and the visions defendant described.” Boyer was found guilty and sentenced to death.

The incident became known as the “Halloween II Murders” and was featured in a short segment on TNT’s Monstervision, hosted by film critic Joe Bob Briggs. Following the trial, moral critics came to the defense of horror films and rejected calls to ban them.

No mask and a .22 revolver? That’s not Michael like at all. The Jason dude in the earlier post got closer to the actual character by dressing up like Jason.

Any links on the web to the story???

Real GHOSTFACE Killer THIERRY JARADIN

What we remember about the Scream movie is that the original was a bit scary because it was the first of its kind. It later turned into a horror franchise that got more laughs that jitters. However, as one judge remarked rather famously about this movie, it was a very good way to learn how to kill someone. The movie itself takes inspiration from Norwegian painter Edvard Munch’s artwork titled, The Scream – equally creepy…

In 1996, truck driver Thierry Jaradin decided to get inspired by the movie too, though he waited five years to do something about it. In 2001, Jaradin’s 15-year-old neighbor Alisson Cambier dropped in for a chat. Jaradin made sexual advances and was rejected by Alisson. He could have simply shrugged it off and shown her the door – instead, he excused himself and went into the next room to don the signature Scream mask and black robes – and then stabbed Alisson 30 times, clamping his hand over her mouth to muffle the screams.

No surprise that he was sentenced to life without parole.
