Makes sense, good find! nowdays colors are different depending on the brand/model, so it’s not hard that a charcoal model could resemble the original Tex green more than other greens or greys they offer.
Yeah; of all the catalogs I could only find 1 year where the correct model were offered and the options were tex green, spruce, blue, and white. Looking at spruce colored objects of that time from Sears you can pretty easily see it was tex green IMO.
Unfortunately it’d take dying a piece of fabric of the same blend and having it next to the coveralls to know for certain. Plus different screen settings may display those colors differently than others to it’s tough.
So do the older coveralls fit smaller like I have heard? I’m curious because I’m usually about a 46 to a 48 Long in the modern designs like workrites, And I’m getting a vintage pair of Sears Coveralls done in 50 tall, I hope they aren’t too big because I was thinking 48 tall might be better but I keep hearing the vintage fit very small. I hope I made the right decision.
Here’s a thought a real car mechanic as in the movie may have used black coveralls , after multiple washes over time the black dye would wash out leaving a dark grey even a charcoal colour , just an opinion.
Well my creepy customs Superior 78’s in Tex green are on the way. Connor sent me a few pics before he shipped them.
Excited on the look! Next to the real deal tradewears I think these are about as close as you can get [emoji2371]
I also just got in my Vietnam era jungle boots with the Vibram soles hopefully they are the right ones they seem to be anyway [emoji1696]
I actually made a YouTube video on them if anybody wants to check them out.
I can’t get my hands on anything close to the original coveralls so I’m ordering the Red Kap Twill Action Back C10 which were used in H20. In that film, they were charcoal but this is for a 78 costume using the 78 TOTS mask. Would you all recommend the charcoal or spruce green?
It’s really your preference. With the research that has been done here over all the years it’s pretty safe to say that most would agree the coveralls from 1978 are likely a color called “Tex green”.
As you know in the movie they sometimes look charcoal black, spruce green and even navy. So really it just comes down to what you like tbh.
