Ive heard the debate regarding the color of Nick Castle’s coveralls in HALLOWEEN 1978, but I find myself on the fence (which is a bad place for someone with OCD, LOL).
It has been said by others that Nick Castle himself described the coveralls as “smokey grey” Sears Tradecs Wear coveralls. On the wiki fan page, it says “Olive Wood” Sears Trade Wear coveralls. I watched the blu-ray last night and compared the coveralls to two specific colors and think that I might have my answer, but wanted to get some feedback. I already own three different pairs in which I weathered (charcoal grey, spruce green and olivewood, the last one which I dyed myself). Personally, I’m leaning toward charcoal grey with a light dye of olive drab. If anyone has any links to sources to set me straight (interviews with cast or crew not fan pages) that’d be awesome. Thank you.
We don’t know exactly which color was used out of the ones offered from the catalog as I’ve yet to find what year the tradewears were sold in Sears catalog‘s. As of right now all we know for certain is that the original color was primarily green with shifts to a blueish-gray depending on lighting. I found an old Sears catalog with the color “Tex Green“ listed as an option and beside it in parentheses is (green/grey). That, in my opinion, is probably the color of the originals if I had to guess.
All I see is gray but maybe I’m color blind lol. Honestly the color timing of the movie and filters will make it very difficult. I thought it was already determined as grey in the definitive guide though?
I put it as grey in the guide because the first pair that was found was listed as grey. We know now though that they’re mainly green with shifts to blue/grey.
Same coveralls, different lighting, compared:
Same. I’ve never seen green. I know that green and gray can be seen differently by different people though. For example my friend used to say her uncle’s van was green and I only saw gray
It’s really weird. I think a lot of it has to do with the color settings of your screen too. For example, in those shots posted above by Hecamehome383, notice how much darker they look, vs those exact same shots posted by Ghostlyshape.
