Coverall colors

Obviously this is a topic of huge discussion but I was hoping for a few opinions from the devoted fans here I have some pretty accurate HalloweeN 1 coveralls that I have been working on and im trying to decide which color to dye them I already tried generic green from wal mart which worked but they didnt get as dark as I hoped… So im trying to decide if I should stick with the green color or go navy blue all you opinions will be greatly appriceated Thanks, Todd

I’ve heard many different opinions in regards to the color of the coveralls used on the films (78 and 81).

H1’s were (JC Penny) Big Macs. Either “dingy” Charcoal Grey or Spruce Green. They look blue in the film, because of the film/lighting. So, a faded blue works as well, although not entirely screen accurate.

H2’s were Sears Roebuck. Some say they were navy blue, some say they are Green. They look blue to me and If I recall on the WMP Coveralls thread says Warlock said they were Blue. So…

The best answer is whatever makes you happy. ha

I just picked up a pair of Red Kap Grey and Green on eBay this morning (seller relisted them for me). Not entirely screen accurate, but very usable (until I can get a pair of Big Macs and Sears (just returned a Sears, because the size was too short for me).

Yeah I too have a pair of red kaps spruce green im not sur why I lean toward the green color I guess to each their own lol but the pair im currently working or I think are roebucks or big macs due to the fact that my boss gave them to me and hes been around for some time lol plus they have the pocket flap they look awesome in my eyes and I know its all about what makes you happy im just hoping to go for a more screen accurate look for my costume… Thank you very much for your input squidboy. How are you liking your red kaps? the only problem I have with them is the few pair of them I own are either a little baggy or a little short lol maybe imk just to picky lol

It’s crazy how many aspects of the costume are collectible (from the mask, to the knife, to the boots, to the coveralls).

Well, I like the green as well, and many members think the Spruce Green is the go to color. Big Macs and Sears are awesome, because they are film accurate (esp with the flap). I almost jumped on a pair of white coveralls (Big Mac) on eBay to attempt a die job, but the chest was too small (40R).

Red Kaps I just ordered them this morning, but I will let you know! Got an pretty good deal (15 for the grey, 20 for the green) so I couldn’t pass it up. I know their not 100 percent accurate, they’re missing the pocket flap, but still cool coveralls esp if I want to try and weather them. I’m hoping 42 R is my go to size (I bought 42S for the Sears, and they were too short in the legs and sleeves). Sadly, I think Red Kap only has one coverall with the pocket flap, but it’s in navy blue (still might try and find one though).

I have a CL ad looking for Big Macs and Sears Coveralls in my area as well… Nothing beats Screen Accurate (I’m planing on doing life sized h1 and h2, so I have to get as accurate as possible for those).

After owning Charcoal Grey, Spruce Green and Olivewood Big Macs my honest opinion is in HALLOWEEN they were Olivewood!

As for Halloween II, Dick told me the coveralls were picked out by himself (he literally walked over to the mall/shopping center and bought them) and they were green. A gray material was later sewn underneath so there would be more “depth” in the areas where the holes were.

There’s so many options. I own over 20 pairs over coveralls. It’s hard to pick just one color. The coveralls look different in quite of few scenes in the 1978 film.

Here’s a few pairs of mine. I’ve added more since this picture was taken.

Nice Im sure its hard to decide deep red but which pair would you consider your favorite or narrow it down to 5 or so

Ha and so the debates go on… Olive wood eh? Just did a google image search. Have to find a pair!

Lmao it really makes no difference to me they dont gotta be spot on I just wanna be in the ballpark of the right color lol but alot of people take this subject a little to seriously if you ask me haha what do you think squidboy?

Hey!! Few years back, it was much easier to find coveralls and knifes. Nowadays, it’s tough. Of course some of us take it more seriously. I’m even guilty of that. I’m always lookign for something new

Anyways, I found these on Ebay. They’re good. I own a pair. The seller has a few listings…

double post (opps)

Well, I’m also guilty ha. Granted, I think it’s all about what your trying to do with it and what makes the you happy. If photographs are your thing, then different colors might be an asset. If the costumes are for parties, then perhaps go with the blues (as that’s what most people, other then die hards, consider the color). The Red Kaps I just got, aren’t accurate but I can’t wait to see how they’ll photograph/ film (a hobby I’'m involved with, can’t wait to incorporate my growing collection). With the life sizes I plan on making, I’m going for as authentic as possible (minus a 1975 DP Kirk, don’t have a “million” dollars hahaha) So I’m going overboard for a search (not only screen accurate coveralls, but also proportionate mannequins for Castle and Warlock, the knifes, the boots, handiboy hands (summer purchase), and the best masks my budget will allow (probably will switch them out on occasion)). I plan on making one for myself, and one for a best friend/ writing partner (hopefully by October).

For example, coveralls are just one area of accuracy. The boots and knifes are whole other matters. Just bought these today, for an alright price:

…(but I’m not sure if the it has the correct treading, so not 100 percent certain their screen accurate). So yeah, I’m guilty as well of being over analytical . haha

Hey squidboy I actually found the boots with the proper tread on a thread in here and they only cost me 20 bucks haha I just got them a few days ago and I couldnt be happier does anyone have any J.I.T.B. Madman 78’s they could post up for me I have this mask but I would love to see other peoples worn shots of them!

Im thinking of dyeing my already green coveralls a charcoal grey color what is everyones opinion on doing that do you think they will retain the greenish hue they already have I just wanna go darker with them because the green they are now is a little to light for me

Dye them once with Ryt black in the washing machine. They will turn out perfect. Just my opinion, they were dark green/charcoal in both H1/H2. Some lighting in H1 made thm look blue but they weren’t.

Awesome bogey thank you gor the input should I still use boiling hot water? the color they are now is like a top gun flightsuit if I could compare them to anything lol I just wanna go a lil darker

This might help!

Also, there is a color chart that might be handy as well (just don’t go overboard with the black!) Personally, I’d prefer other colors then black to deepen the tone. It’s all about experimenting!

Thanks squidboy you have been a big help!!!

Has any Members on the boards here dyed up there red kaps ever? I Just got a pair of charcoal kaps for a decent price, and I know I wanna go greener with them but I wasnt sure if the dye would hold to the poly/cotton blend? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
