I know this has been posted at some point or another here, but how would I go about weathering these Red Kaps?
The spruce green I’m obviously going for an H2 look, with all the bullet holes. The charcoal I’m hoping to get a good H40 look out of them. Tips, tricks, advice?
your best bet is fabric paint, I use black “Tulip” brand matte black fabric paint.
For both pairs, i put some of the black paint in a red plastic beer-cup and thin it with tap water 1/3rd water 2/3rds paint
thin it down then dry brush it onto a scrap piece of cardboard so its not so thick or dark before moving to the fabric.
Drybrush that on the knees/elbows/pocket etc yada for the oil stains/weathering. thats what i did on my h40s
heres a pic of the screen used coveralls so you get an idea how they dirtied them up
Typically I’ll start by sanding down the coveralls to give them a distressed look. Then you have two options. The first is fabric paint as detailed above by englundisgod, but what I usually do is lightly mist them with matte black spray paint. Just make sure you’re lightly misting, not directly painting the coveralls.
you dont need any blue dye, dark green is good if your not satisfied with how dark the green pair are.
graphite is good but its SUPER strong and overpowering it will turn coveralls black in like 2 minutes
you would only need that if the greens arent dark enough, you would use very little like a dixie cup of graphite
for all the water in the dyebath its the most overpowering I dilute it alot
I think they look great as is you dont need any blue i think. charcoal grey is made by mixing blue or purple fiber into
the grey thread to make it that color.
they already have some blue in them already, and the pic you posted they look both grey and blue in the the sunlight
Id say there finished, are you going to add the blood hole above the pocket
No I think I’m going to leave them as is, that I way I can use them for my H1 mask as well.
Now onto my H2 coveralls, I think I’m going to try a car lighter or a blow torch to get the bullet holes just right.
