I’ve been seeing these Reed coveralls and decided to pick a pair of spruce green. These exceeded my expectations, the quality is amazing, right up there with red kap. For 17.99 you can’t go wrong! Even has the right pocket flap already! Took some pictures, haven’t done anything to them yet. Took some indoor/outdoor comparison shots with my charcoal red kaps. I like these a lot! Pick up a pair!!
If the spruce green was the base color before weathering, what can be done to these to make them more accurate? Dye bath? Hole locations? Thanks for looking guys!
I have reeds as well they are sweet I opted for navy blue as my choice for H1
Nice! I was surprised on the quality of these. I thought since they were so cheap they were gonna be cheap quality…not the case at all. I will be getting more!
Mine looked way too dark when I first got them so I soaked them in a diluted bleach bath.
Fill your tub or washing machine about half way, put in around half a bottle of bleach or so (maybe 1/3 to start with) mixed well, then soak your Reeds in it and leave them to sit for a while.
I had to let my Reeds sit for over three hours for a noticeable difference, but check on them every half hour or so until they look good to you, then just run them through a regular wash cycle.
If you end up bleaching them too much you can soak them in a weak Rit dye bath to darken them back up some.
Hope that helps man. Good luck!
Ah man bleach scares me lol what will the bleach do to them? I think bleach I think of that blondish white look like it does to black. Will it just make them a lighter green or something? I’m not sure what I’m wanting to accomplish with these yet…
In the first post, your last pic looks almost like an ‘after and before’ pic of mine after and before I bleached them. Because the Reeds have a lot of poly in the blend the color change is subtle, as opposed to something that is 100% cotton. I’ll try to find and take a pic of mine here in a few so you can see for yourself.

Ah…I see, it will just fade them out, ok. Then get some black paint and sponge it on here and there to dirty them up maybe…
thanks man, I may give this a try!
Yeah, it just fades em up nice. All the fraying you see on them I did with a Dremel using a sanding drum and some regular sandpaper as well here and there. They’re not finished yet because I accidentally sanded through some of the thread holding it together and I need to get to that first
Hey, when you say 1/2 or 1/3 bottle of bleach, what size bottle are you using? 2qt or a gallon?
Did you do the weathering before or after the bleach bath? Or does that matter?
It was a gallon jug. I bleached them first and then washed them a couple of times before I did any weathering. I used my Dremel first to do the heavier fraying, then went over it with sandpaper here and there, then I stuffed the coveralls and misted black spray paint on them wherever I thought they needed it. The stuffing and misting technique is documented with pics in this thread from springwoodslasher:
Cool man, thanks for that. I’ll be doing the bleach phase tonight, I’ll post up how that goes…
May I ask where you got a pair that cheap or was it just something you got lucky with somewhere? I’ve got some Big Macs, but I wouldn’t mind owning a pair of these. They look damned good.
Ebay…type in “spruce green coveralls” The seller has a few sizes. The 44x33 are perfect for me @ 6’5" 225lbs. I was shocked too when I saw 17.99…plus like 8.80 shipping but still…very nice coveralls for the money.
Great pick up brother!!!
