For every mask I have done, I order a quantity of 4. That has been enough for me. That works out to a braided 4 foot section, but once you steam it, its almost 3 times that long.
I’d buy extra regardless. And crepe wool is awesome but it’s been confirmed the screen used mask used a mixture of camel with mohair more towards the hairline. I think the crepe looks better but just saying for accuracy
It’s definitely a learning process, I know how annoying it is. Did you order the crepe yet? I can find the link to a mohair I found that was nearly exact to the screen used. It was an off-brown but somebody in the group posted side by side shots and it was almost exact
I’m gonna search the group for the link and photo comparison brotha! The crepe wool is still a great option I’ve seen JC overhaul a few copies with it
I’ve done a few masks using crepe wool but find the texture isn’t ideal for replicating a nice diffused look when messed up. It is relatively easy to mix colours by hand , I just find the end result falls short of other fibres. It looks and feels cheap. Preferable to mohair however, which isn’t great to work with.
I find camel the best overall. The following link is a great source for animal fibres in the UK, and reasonably priced. I can confirm their camel hair is a perfect colour for a H40 mask: https://www.winghamwoolwork.co.uk/camel-hair.html
