i suppose its my own dumb ass fault for getting hyped about the talk of ‘going back to the original mask’. i still have high hopes for the film overall but of all the things movies expect the common viewer to suspend belief in, i was hoping latex shelf life would be something they were willing to over look. but hey lets have michael nab a pair of coveralls that coincidentally look spot on to the coveralls he wore 40 years ago. wtf ever
This whole post has me confused. The coveralls are a completely different color with different pockets, etc. I mean, all coveralls kinda have the same look…
obviously the coveralls he would take from a random victim in 2018 would not be the exact pair that he wore in 1978 but the mask is supposed to be the exact same mask in the film. so i wish they would have not added the aspect of latex shelf life and went with a spot on H1 replica.
i was really hoping we would get the ‘Shatner’ Myers back for this one.
The mask looks better than I expected, but it’s still essentially a Rob Zombified caricature of the original in that they gave it a decayed look that doesn’t really reflect how a mask actually decays (not that I wanted that either) much like the RZH mask did to its’ clean version. Given that it’s not really the return to the original I and many others wanted nor an H6 like cool new mask that respects the original. Feels like we’ve been here before in respect to the RZH mask having that decayed look.
I hate being cynical about the film, but it’s not like sequels to and remakes of the classics in the past 20+ years have given anyone hope (New Nightmare being the best of the lot by a long shot in terms of respecting the franchise combined with quality and that was 24 years ago, Curse of Chucky being the only one in recent years to do something right).
I hope it’s great, but those reservations will exist until then.
It’s been 40 years… the most fans will expect to be the same for this character is the mask, which looks amazing btw. Being realistic, I’m sure Michael has since been caught and put back in an asylum since we last saw him. So he obviously gets a whole “new” outfit. The mask on the other hand is his original, so certain measures have been taken. Yes, the mask would deteriorate worse than it looks in the film, but we must remember that this movie isn’t just for hardcore fans like us, but for people new to the series (mainly millennials who have no idea what Halloween is.) So the mask must look old, but still identify to audiences clearly as the same mask from 1978.
The mask looks brilliant. And why can’t there be a new thread? It is not as if we put all the original “Halloween” posts in one thread! That would make no sense.
I get that…but it’s 40 years later. Why would the coveralls or the mask for that matter be the same? The dude said he wanted them to overlook the mask rot but that wouldn’t make sense. The whole focus of this movie is that a long time has passed.
Let me see if I understand where some people are coming from: you wanted the mask to look exactly the same as the H78. How would this have happened from a narrative standpoint? Michael orders a vintage “The Shape” mask on eBay and has it delivered before breaking out of Smith’s Grove? Come on.
its not that hard to understand. I was hoping they would go with a 'Kirk" based mask. they could age the sh*t out of it from there. its the new sculpt thing claiming that is how the original aged that i dont care for. if your cool with a new version of the mask every movie your in luck as thats what we have got. i just wanted to see a ‘Shatner’ based mask on the big screen one more time. #therealmichaelmyers
Honestly, I’m starting to think they may have used the lifecast as bass or even reference. The shape and placement of features etc. certainly point to it IMO
