Decker Shado Halloween review

Hello everyone, something that’s been bugging me lately, but I recently watched (or attempted to watch) Decker Shado’s review of Halloween (1978) and I don’t mean to sound intolerant, but I don’t think he gets the original Halloween. He said he doesn’t think it’s timeless, and granted I think it’s timeless, but I can see where some people might think given some of the 70’s showing up. He also complains about Michael Myers not doing anything until the last third which really got me. I think he has been spoiled by the other slasher films because they have a kill every 10 minutes or so and then thing is Halloween is not a slasher film unlike the sequals, it’s a thriller/suspense and Michael in the first one is not a slasher but a Stalker.

He also says something to the extent of it not being realistic which I think is false. Think about it, like with Michael Myers, in real life stalkers wait for the moment to strike their victim which can take minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, even years. Plus Michael (like stalkers) aren’t entirely all there in the head which makes them unpredictable, and it’s that unpredictability which makes Michael and stalkers entirely frightening.

Also Michael Myers not doing anything isn’t just with him being a stalker, but it is also to build suspense and make you guess when is he going to strike, and unfortunately I guess some people don’t like suspense anymore, I wish people were more patient, like the same audiences who could watch 2001 a space Odyssey. Most of everyone here on this great site understands suspense and stuff, but it sucks people in general don’t have patience or the attention span anymore. Sorry for this pointlesd thread, just wanted to vent to fellow fans

Who is decker shado?

I like the guys reviews. While he does reviews, it’s mainly with an emphasis on comedy. I dont think he fully got Halloween either but I wouldn’t take it too seriously. I’ve heard the complaint of the original being slow by many. Not everyone gets it. He gave H2 (1981) a more positive review due to it having more kills/action. I think the guy watches so many movies he doesnt have much patience with slower movies. He gets bored quickly. I know sometimes I have to rewatch movies to appreciate them if I watched something I wasnt in the mood for. Hes doing the summer of Halloween just because the franchise is hot this year with the new movie. And it’s not a pointless thread man. Thank you for sharing with us. Happy to have you here!

Thanks for your response man , And yeah for the most part I like his reviews, but unfortunately his H1 I couldn’t get behind.

I definitely understand. I hope he gives it another chance one day. Definitely an iconic movie!

He does reviews of movies (mainly horror) on YouTube. I randomly stumbled on to his vids one day… Wasnt an immediate fan but he grew on me. Pretty funny dude.

Iconic is right my bruda, the movie is the definition of suspense and horror, the best suspense movie is Halloween, the best punch you in the face movie is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the best mix of the two is Friday the 13th part 4.

Definitely on the Texas chainsaw massacre. That movie still makes me gringe at the end when Nubbins is slashing Sally. It just looked so real. No idea how he thought he could get it rated PG.

Has he watched any other horror film before 1980? There are countless other older films with this kind of gradual build up.

Funnily enough I watched that review just a couple of days ago when it appeared on my YouTube recommendations. While I found myself disagreeing with most of what he said about halloween I couldn’t get mad about it cos like someones already said his reviews are basically comedy reviews. But yeah I agree that he doesn’t get halloween

I watch Decker occasionally on youtube. The problem is he watches ALL horror movies, so doesn’t have time to notice minor details. I can’t remember what exactly the subject matter was specifically, but I remember him read his thoughts and he did INDEED miss the point on a few things in the movie. Unfortunately, these are bog plot points he doesn’t understand and I think it lessens the effect of the movie for him. However, that being said… some of his stuff is pretty decent.
