Did Michael Myers love his mother (Deborah Myers)?

What do you guys think? In the remake timeline, it seems that Michael Myers does still have some love on his mother, at least before she committed suicide. Am I right/wrong? Please let me know the arguments.

Its hard to say. He might have but probably when he was a kid. But in the 78 timeline i feel myers was just a psychopath since the day he was born. Like the killer in that movie “we need to talk about kevin”, evil from the get-go. I much prefer a myers that is a vessel for pure evil than the human myers who becomes a psychopath due to his environment and upbringing.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I feel different. I think in the original timeline, he was a pure psychopath, no sympathy, no conscience, etc. But in the remake timeline, I see some ambiguity from time to time, such as his attitude to his mother. I’ve always been wondering whether he would kill his mother if she was there or not. (This is also why I stressed Deborah Myers.)

By the way, I think the “Cult of Thorns” thing is utterly redundant.

You summed this up better than anyone could. Couldn’t agree more

As Loomis says in the remakes, “So it is the fate of all of us to direct our first sexual impulses towards our mothers and our first murderess hatred against our fathers.” I think his mother was the only person Michael ever did truly love. She was the only one who ever showed him love or kindness in return. I think it’s an interesting concept. Considering how much the 1978 version was influenced by the movie Psycho, I think this was a great addition to the lore by Rob Zombie.

Idk if we are talking specifically about the RZ movies, but as far as Halloween 1978 and now 2018 goes, Michael Myers wasn’t born “the shape.”

In the 1979 novelization of Halloween, the first 5 chapters covers the origins of Halloween and Samhain, Michael as a boy right before and during the events of 1963, and during his time in Smith’s Grove with Dr. Loomis. Michael was a normal and very charming boy who loved his parents, who eventually was taken over completely by the evil of Samhain.

In the book we get a glimpse into Michael’s mind while Danny and Judith are doing the hanky panky. Michael notes openly in his mind that he has overheard his parents making love before, but he knew it was out of love. But for reasons unknown to him, when he knew what Judith was doing with Danny he was filled with a murderous rage he couldn’t control.

The origin story of Samhain told in the book prior to this moment has significant relation that explains his rage. 15 years in Smiths Grove has lead Michael to embrace his murderous Samhain urges.

Again, I don’t explain it all too well, but I would hate to ruin the book. Seriously read it, it’s mind opening to everything that is Halloween.

I believe he did love his mother. Look at H2 rob zombies movie.

I know theres all this huge “backstory” the novels and even h6 tried to give michael myers but to me it works better when he has no motive. He just is and does what he does, simple as that. Even the star wars prequels ruined everything by trying to explain everything, even the origins of boba fett. I dont know about you but boba fett is a lot cooler when you dont know where he comes from, same thing for the joker. Sometimes what you imagine in your head and not being sure 100% is better than showing us because nothing will ever live up to what you imagine or satisfy you in any way. Thats why heath ledgers joker worked so well because you dont need to know the why or where he comes from, all you need to know is that hes the joker and does what he does and his motivations are entirely his. The same logic applies to michael myers.

I’ve never read the novelization, but have been curious about it and have wondered if it had anything different from the movie. I’m definitely picking this up now.

If you ever find a way to read it, let me know
