Did the Original Kirks Have a Clearcoat?

Hi Everyone.

Just like the title asks, did the original Don Post 1975 Kirks have a sealer after the flesh tone was added? I have looked at the various gallery pictures of the 75’s and due to perhaps the different lighting conditions I just cannot know for sure (and yes I realize they all were somewhat different). Maybe some of you out there with much better knowledge than me might be able to chime in.

Do u mean were the kirks shiny? I don’t know if the kirks Had clear coat, but I did notice some being shiny and some not so shiny strange

No… I don’t believe they were…

If I’m not mistaken the old don post masks were painted with actual pigments. IDK for sure if that’s what was used on the Kirk, but I don’t think there is any clear coat on the Kirk unless an owner coated it to stop latex rot.

Rubber cement paint?

Thanks for the input everyone. It didn’t look like there was any sheen on the surface of the ones we have seen in the gallery. For the most part they look like the paint was a bit on the flat side initially with little to no light reflection if you take into account weathering and age (I could be wrong somehow).
