I was wondering, I don’t know if this had ever been asked. There are alot of threads here!! I know the answer from seeing an interview and if you have seen the interview it makes sense.
I think it was physcho but I could be weong
I heard it somewhere online that he was partly inspired by somebody but I didn’t pay attention as I thought it was bullshit but I know his name comes from a friend of Carpenter named Michael Myers
Well, I think that is partly right. What I meant was actually his mannerisms, the personality (or lack of it) and things like that.
Right, someone that Carpenter knew was named Michael Myers. I’d be surprised if nobody could answer this, but I’m sure with all you very smart fans that someone will answer it soon. I will give a hint, it was a bald actor that was quite famous in his time. (and no it’s not kojak…telly savalas)

A class trip he took to an asylum in his younger years. He mentioned seeing a boy staring through a wall, very catotonic and such. Exactly how Michael looked in the TV edition of Halloween at Smith’s Grove. Castle did the head tilt partially on his own, and partially from a minor direction from Carpenter. The rest was all Castle. The walk was his as well.

The name Michael Myers was taken from a friend of his and Debra Hill. He was in the film business, primarily working in London England. He passed away many years ago.
As far has his mannerisms, John just told Nick (and everyone else who played Michael) to just be simple in their movements, which of course resulted in how he walked, moved ect… I believe that was John’s idea.
It was ‘Sam Loomis’ who was derived from Psycho. They did that a a tribute to Janet Leigh and Jamie’s involvement etc. Sam Loomis’ character in Psycho was that of the boyfriend of Janet’s character.
the mannerism of michael not giving up or dying was based off of a killer robot from westworld
HalloweenNight is also correct.
Ahhhh, I was starting to think I had you guys stumped. Correct
Yul Brenner from the movie Westworld I believe the character was billed as “the gunslinger”
Shit I had forgotten about Westworld. Yes that’s true he said that his never-dying seemingly impossible force was based off the gunslinger from West-World. He was trying to emphasize that he himself covering up his face, you not being able to stop him/hurt him made him not human but just a force which for carpenter was more scary than just a man that kills
Ok it may not be relavent to this thread, but Carpenter was a fan of Alfred Hitchcock and the way he directed his movies, so Carpenter captured in his own way the directing styles of Alfred Hitchcock, for Halloween just my 2 cents
Pretty cool info everyone. I’ll have to get a copy of Westworld and check it out.
The character’s name was based on his producer for Assault on Precinct 13 in the UK. Michael’s actual movements and such were all Nick’s.
yeah the walk was all nick.
nick even said “people put too much emphasis on it. I just walked”
carepenter told nick not to act , just walk
