I was wondering if anyone else here felt like they wished they had a talent or incredible gift to share with this community and felt a little bad that they didn’t? Ton clarify, there are so many talented people here tonshare their gifts of mask making, prop art, painting, drawing etc. And sometimes I wish I had something like that to share. Not that I am complaining or feel I shouldn’t be here but what a wonderful feeling it would be to give this community your gift. In the end I feel like a small piece is missing from the complete experience in this community. Shit I don’t even have a lot of witty or eloquent posts to share. . Anyway, just wondered if anyone else felt that way? Would love to give this community something back one day I guess is what I’m getting at.
Hey Adam, I hear what your saying man… There are many people here with great talents to share with everyone. Unfortunately i dont have many talents that im able to share here either, only the love for Halloween and Michael Myers. I have other talents, just nothing that really contributes to this place just yet… Im sure your the same way brother. So as long as you have that love for this hobby, and the great people here at MM.net i wouldnt worry to much about it. Just enjoy this place and the season we love… Cheers buddy
I’m like Dren, I let my finger on the shutter do the talking. But when it comes to me drawing, painting and making replicas, NOT !! JC and Artmark, just to name a few(couple), are amazing at what they do. I also love the pictures of the “horror rooms” that people have in their homes. That’s art in itself
Not to brag but I have a huge talent in music but I just simply dont feel that music will go good with this site since people here collect masks. And then I also make halloween animatronics and make many other props and decorations for my haunted house (which I will surely post in 80 days!)
I also repaint masks to make them a bit more better and i also make costumes but I wish can learn to make masks to sell super affordable myers masks for our friends here
And also I make replicas of weapons our favorite slashers used but at last all the items I make are of lesser quality and thats why I dont sell things here.because I do to not want upset anyone on the not perfect quality of the stuff I make
Gloves and knives I made
Don post 06 I repainted
And the freddy costume I made(bought the mask blank and the fedora is untouched)
I just dont think they’re perfect enough for to offer anything to anyone here…
Pics is the one thing I didn’t think of and that actually sounds like a great idea! Thanks for commenting guys, and definitely agree with ya Adam, love the name
I’ve been drawing and painting my whole life. It’s part of who I am as a person,I’m just not the type to show off my work. For me it’s very personal and private. I’m sure some people are the same way,or maybe it’s just me.lol
I love what all the tallented people on this board share with all of us here. It’s part of what makes this hobby so great.
Interesting post! You know, I believe that almost everyone has the ability to be a great artist. What people are missing is that weird passion to attempt, fail, then attempt again! Other than my small mask business, I am also a magician. No matter where I perform, people say, " I wish I could do that, but there is no way I could be that slick with sleight of hand". What those people dont see is the hundreds of decks of cards I have dropped, the coins that fall at the wrong time, and me failing horrible at “reading someones mind” or escaping from a strait jacket. The same goes with artist. I as an artist wont post my failures, and believe me, I as well as every other artist on this board, started off somewhere, and we started of with a few FAILS. You potential is limitless. The only thing that limits anyone is the lack of that weird, nerdy, unexplainable passion. That drive to obsess over the weird or “useless” as viewed by society. Whether, it is music, theatre, magic, sculpting, or any other art form. It all starts with a crazy love passion!
I know exactly what you mean. I can’t draw, paint, sculpt, etc…but I can create animated avatars for you guys and I enjoy it. It gives me a sense of pride to be able to help improve (I hope I improve it, anyway) this great forum with a personal touch. I smile every time I see an avatar that I created in somebody’s profile. https://forum.michael-myers.net/t/i-create-animated-avatars-for-you/42577/1
So yeah…I used to wonder what I could do to pitch in around here…it started with screen caps and evolved into animated avatars!
EDIT: LMAO…I just scanned through and not one person in this thread is using any of my creations…kinda humorous irony.
AWESOME post! Well said. I’m an artist, but at one point I was pretty terrible. My sculpts were crude and horrible, my paint work was sloppy and amateurish. You should have seen my first paint up, it was terrible… I mean, just a mess. My first sculpting attempt was pretty sad as well. It’s taken a lot of time, trial and error to get where I am. It only takes drive and the willingness to fail until you start succeeding. Everyone has a talent of some sort, even if it is photography, music, costuming, whatever.
Wow! Awesome replies guys! You know just the other day there was post asking: what do you come to MM.net for, why this forum? And this is exactly why, the brotherhood and respect here is awesome. I have contemplated making some fan movies and I think after reading these replies I’m going to go for it, even if they turn out horrible the experience will be so much fun! Thanks for the inspiration everybody!
Adam, it’s good that threw people’s replies you have found some of what you were looking for to not be afraid of doing something that you want to do but aren’t sure of the turn out. Trying is the important thing. The worst thing that can happen is that is doesn’t pan out the way your mind envisions it, but at least you tried & found out & that’s pretty much what count’s. You only fail when you fail to try.
Go ahead and do anything you please brother! No one can stop you from doing what you want although out these forums people aren’t as repectful and don’t let those people bring you down you will always have us man
NAILED it. Trying is the important thing. The legendary warriors of Sparta only became the fierce fighters they were because they trained constantly. Guys like JC and Mark built upon their natural talent to become stellar artists… There is nothing stopping anyone from being great at whatever they put their mind to. It all comes down to desire, willingness to fail, and perseverance. Keep at it man, and I look forward to seeing that video… and all the ones after that.
Trust me…creating avatars wasn’t an instant success for me. I spent many frustrating hours trying to figure it all out while creating horrible looking avatars that nobody ever saw…saying things like, “why the hell does that picture show up in EVERY frame…I don’t have it viewable in every frame…dammit what am I doing wrong???” and “what do you mean I have to rasterize it first…what the hell does that even mean???”
I didn’t offer my services until I had the process down and to this day, I still work to improve the quality. Some people are born with a natural talent and others have to practice for days/weeks/years. If you enjoy doing something and it truly makes you happy, that’s all that really matters. You will always have critics that have nothing but negative things to say, but that’s life! I grew up hearing “life isn’t fair” from my Mom and she’s right, it’s not…and it shouldn’t be…we grow and learn from our mistakes.
