…back in the early to mid 90’s when you could not find a copy of the original Halloween on VHS to purchase anywhere? I remember going into Sun Coast for years and never seeing it on the shelf (only Halloween 4 and 5) and even attempting to special order it…I was told it was only released every 5 years of so, sort of like the way Disney only releases certain titles for home use then pulls them off the shelf for a decade.
Was this only my experience? Or did any of you find it absolutely impossible to get a copy of our favorite film during this time period?
absoloutely. it was not for sale in stores in the 90s. It wasnt until the late 90’s it made its way back to VHS. i remember how excited i was. I always had to rent it or watch it on TV.
your damn right i do! it would air on USA around every Halloween but i couldnt even find a video store where i could rent a copy for nothiong. i dont know exactly when that changed around here, i do believe it was on a sequel release but cant remember which one. for the past several years now our local video store haas carried it but there was a long span i couldnt find it anywhere. i was able to buy it on vhs long before the video store started carrying it again. but after its release on blue-ray (best thing that ever happened
) i think the original is around to stay now.
Man, who owned the rights to the film during the 90’s? What was their problem? I was literally heartbroken for 7 years!
I remember Media Home Video had the rights throughout the 80’s. I think around the mid 1990s Blockbuster Video came out with their version of it that was exclusively sold at Blockbuster locations on VHS.
I think Anchor Bay got the rights in the late nineties.
I guess if you didn’t have a Blockbuster in your neighbourhood, this was a tough title to get in the mid 1990’s.
i bought it in 1986 at rainbow video used and i still have it…i got it for 14$ .i watched it about 5 times the day i got it and remember thinkin man will i ever find a mask that looks like that…lol…tommy
I never actualy saw the Media home entertainment VHS for sale, only rent. But I did buy the blockbuster version in the 90’s.
