So I figured I’d get a cheap mask that I could play around with and tweak myself. I found one of those ugly looking Don Post masks on ebay for $30 shipped and thought to myself, challenge accepted!
Here’s some pictures of what I got:
I still have to tweak it a bit but this is what the mask looks like now:
This is my first time trying to paint an original Halloween mask btw. Hope you guys like it
Great job. Really good improvement! I did my DP06 last year as well. I tweaked the eye cuts and messed with the paint some and this is what I cam up with…
Yours looks great. I think mines an 08 and by the look of it, yours seems to have better shape with the stem of the nose. That or you’ve made it look that way with paint
Thanks, I appreciate it I was pretty hesitant about how close to the original I could make it when I bought it. It’s not perfect but turned out way better than I expected and I saved a few hundred.
Night and day. I love seeing masks saved like this. I’ve wanted to re-paint my old Illusive Concepts Dangerfield Myers mask as it’s the only bad mask I own and I want to see if it can be salvaged.
I call it the Dangerfield because the face reminds me of Rodney, also someone I know that looks almost exactly like him like him (also Sid Caesar). I believe I bought it back when I thought owning every replica was a doable idea, but this was in the mid to late 90’s back when the only indie replicas I knew of were the HSS '81 and Sean Clark '75, and the only mass produced ones I knew of were these and the Don Posts.
I decided to give this one another crack mainly because I was bored the other day. It was a half hour rush job but I’m pretty happy with the look. Here’s some pictures:
Looks good! I repainted my DP 06, too. Ripped off the eye brows and redid the weathering snd everything. Looks nice. Wanted better masks, though, so I sold it in my uncles thrift store a few weeks back for what I bought it for. Was told the guy who bought was “really excited”, so even if I didn’t make a profit off of it, I’m still glad I was able to make somebody happy for Halloween. Speaking of which, Happy Halloween yourself!
Another thing to note is the hair on these masks are very well glued. I think TOTS needs to improve on that aspect with their masks. I was able to comb this hair and can hold the mask by the hair without loosing any which I thought was quite impressive.
