Hey all, I have a really hard time using the dry brushing method on the blumhouse trilogy masks. I do not want to continue with washes any more and want to dry brush masks now. Im having MAJOR issues with it. I use barely any paint, and i use flat brushes and go over a dark base. Somehow it still gets extremely bumpy and i hate it. Is there anything Im doing wrong? I also do not strip the mask at all. I have been thinking that COULD be a reason, but im not sure. Thanks!

There is already a pretty bumpy texture to the stock paintwork on the TOTS blumhouse masks I’ve owned, maybe the dry brushing is bringing that out more? Try doing the exact same thing you’re doing on a scrap of something smooth like cardboard and see if that get’s bumpy as well.
What kind of paint are you using and what brushes? If it’s a very thick paint and/or a coarse brush like a chip brush you’ll see more texture.
Im using nightshades. Yea Ive tested it and it only gets bumpy on the mask

By paint, you mean just acrylic paint or is it mixed with latex? Cause i’d avoid using liquid latex for drybrushing since it’s very easy to get it bumpy, and also the layer is so thin that the acrylic should hold a little bit of stretch.
I think it would be useful if you posted some pics so people here can get a better idea of the problem
No its just nightshades paint. Same kind used for the movie masks. Heres some pics

Nightshades is a mix of latex and acrylic though isn’t it? Cause they are “mask ready”.
I’d look into finding an acrylic of the same hue and just dry brushing that on top (unfortunately you’ll have to do the thing all over again), maybe the TOTS mask has enough of a texture that causes this issue.
Either that or yeah, try stripping the mask completely so you can get a smooth base first
