Emmett Kelly

What is the history of this mask? Ive seen a few people talking about it and a number of collectors have it…but i dont know anything about it? Who origianlly made it? and why is it so popular?

Thanks guys

Mark

it’s was made by don post…

When picking the mask for the OG Halloween it was between the Captain Kirk & Emmett Kelly mask, I’m guessing thats why its so popular.

Aside from being a really neat old Don Post mask there’s nothing special about it. It was based off of the famous clown Emmett Kelly:

Tommy Lee Wallace said said the alternative choice for the mask in the first movie was a “classic clown” in some interviews and also called it “a” Kelly mask in others but when he described how the mask looked it doesn’t sound anything like what the Don Post mask looks like. The mask has become popular amoung Myers collectors I think because it’s so damn creepy and because of the unsubstantiated claim that it was indeed the alternative choice mask though, like I said, it doesn’t match the description Wallace gave for THE mask. and I personally do not think it was the mask he spoke of.

That said, I have one and love it.

Is it still being made by some mask makers, or are the ones im seeing original DP masks?

The original DP EK’s were made in the 70s and are long out of production. There are other versions of Emmett out there though
made by other companies… although most of them look bad. Darkside Studios makes the best replica today that you can purchase for $80.

I agree with Josh. This particular mask was not considered for Halloween. Tommy Lee described it as having poofy hair and a smile. Sounds more like Lou Jacobs. (another classic clown)

What? TLW always said it was either the Emmett Kelly sad clown face with the mouth turned downward, or the Captain Kirk mask. What are you talking about?
