I’m sure some of you know halloweenmovies.com was running a fan film contest. I found out about it about two weeks before the deadline, so I had to cook up something fast. I knew I was going to keep it simple considering how much time I had to make it, so I knew it would be a short. There are plenty of fan films about Michael. I wanted to go a different route. That brought me to Haddonfield circa 1878. According to Tommy, it was common practice for Celtic tribes to inflict a child with the Thorn curse. That means there must have been several “shapes” before Michael roamed the streets.

Just from the pictures, I’m sure you can tell there will be several nods to the series. The films selected for the festival were posted today and I was lucky enough to make the list. Release dates for each film will be revealed later this week.

By whats posted, I could really get into this one.
I like the time period idea for sure. Kind of like what they did for ‘Ginger Snaps Back’
Looking forward to this one for sure.
Hopefully fans like it. I think a good amount of the fan films are definitely worth a watch, but all of them involve Michael or someone else playing Loomis. I’m surprised no one that I know of has gone a different route yet and looked at something else in the Halloween universe. Even something related to Halloween III. Right now this one is only 6 minutes long, but it is something I’d love to expand on at some point. For the short I just wanted to keep the Halloween theme of the lone girl being watched/stalked but transposed to a different time period. I’ve always wanted to do a period piece so this was a nice little test for me.
I posted this on my film’s thread too, but man that is a sweet short film! Absolutely original idea, ties perfectly into the universe, and is just awesome. I hope more people will get into telling stories not of just Michael, Loomis or the like, but also the other Halloween universe stories that could be.
Cheers!
I’m glad you like it. I am worried people won’t take to it since it doesn’t feature Michael, but I’m glad we went ahead with making it. I just realized I accidentally used an outtake in the short, so I resent it to them but I’m not sure if they’ll accept it.
There really are plenty of other Halloween stories to be told. I think I remember hearing that someone made a version of the story the groundskeeper started telling Loomis about Old Charlie and his hacksaw. A continuation of Halloween III would be really interesting to me. Maybe a really effects heavy montage of the individual mask deaths some of the children went through that night. Possibly the alternate part 4 Carpenter originally had planned. There’s a whole bunch of things that could be done.
I wouldn’t worry too much about people not taking to it. It’s a great idea, original story and frankly, I’ve been thinking about it all day. I would seriously like to discuss collaborating with you on a feature version of this for next year’s contest. If you’re interested, PM me.
Dark.
Scary.
Thorn.
Awesome.
That could be fun if there is another contest, but it’ll really depend on what else I’ll be doing next year.
Well it looks like halloweenmovies.com has dropped the ball and cancelled the Halloween fan film fest and are unable to screen the movies due to “forces out of their control”, even though they have been planning on it for months and we have already signed wavers for them. At the very least I hope some of you will take a look at my entry. Fans of Curse should enjoy it a bit.
