Do you have a film in the series that falls into this category? Mine would have to be the Halloween II TV Cut, purely for nostalgic reasons. When I was about 10 or so, in 1985, a friend called me up around Halloween and told me I had to put my TV on WGN, because they were showing Halloween 2 & 3 back to back. I had never heard of them, but watched them both, and loved them. This was my first introduction to the series. These were the TV cuts, of course. About a year later, HII aired again on WGN, and this time I was ready. So I taped it to VHS, and over the next few years I wore that tape out. I don’t think I saw another Halloween movie until H4 was released. A couple more years passed and I eventually watched H1, which scared me silly. Then finally, I rented HII, and was blown away when I realized that I had been watching a TV cut. I was 15 and naive to TV edits at the time. I ended up loving both, but have a soft spot for the TV cut, and was very happy when Scream Factory released it to blu ray. I still watch it on ocassion. I bought a bootleg called the Halloween II Ultimate Cut, which had all scenes combined together. That was cool, but it would have both versions of the same scene playing back to back. I would love for someone to make a complete cut, even if it is formatted to TV, with all the appropriate R scenes and the edited out scenes together.
Probably H5 for me. It’s not a very good movie, and it’s certainly a step down from H4, but I just have a soft spot for it due to nostalgia. I would watch it every year on AMC’s Fear Fest. I don’t think the mask is that bad, and the bumbling cops have never bothered me either. Killing Rachel was a big mistake, and so was replacing her with the incredibly annoying Tina along with all the other annoying characters.
Jamie being mute and having a psychic connection to Myers was weird, and Donald Pleasance’s performance was so wild and crazy it wasn’t even Loomis anymore in my eyes. However, that laundry chute scene was great, and the moment when Myers crashes the car with the horn blaring, then it suddenly stops as he slowly emerges through the fog and headlights was very atmospheric.
I hear ya. I think it can be safely said that even if a Halloween film isn’t that great, it will have some redeeming quality. Be that a really cool scene, music or whatever. I can’t say the same is necessarily true for other franchises.
H5, not really a guilty pleasure as such. I actually really like it and feel it’s underrated. Now, my guilty pleasure is Halloween: Resurrection: Bianca Kajlich ![]()
Halloween 5 for me, drunken unhinged Dr Loomis is pure entertainment. “TELL ME WHERE HE IS!!” write, WRITE!!"
Grown Ups 2 Lol
Resurrection, cause I love Brad loree’s performance and the beginning scene before Laurie gets killed, H5 I honestly love, cause it taps into the occult
Rob Zombie’s H2. Awful movie, but it’s got some great kills, and I love the costume and set design!
