You may cast your vote until October 1st. Later in the month the ten masks with the most votes will be revealed from number ten to number one! Which mask will rule supreme? It’s up to YOU!
If you are new to the hobby please look in our gallery to view the masks and make your decision based on what YOU feel is the best mask.
This poll only works if ALL of you cast your votes. Thanks everyone for your participation, voting starts NOW!
There’s a lot of really nice contenders up there. It didn’t take me long to decide on my top two. The DB2 and the 75K. And after viewing the gallery one more time to compare the two I came up with my decision. Images 269 thru 276 finalized my decision. The 75K wins my vote. It pulls off the perfect Kirk, the perfect H1 Myers and the perfect H2 Myers. What more can you ask for.
Polls like this always make me wonder what criteria individuals use to pick a favorite (i.e. display accuracy, sculpt accuracy, costume accuracy, past/current ownership, desire to own, status, etc.). Although the Gallery is a decent source for novice collectors or the curious board prowler, it seriously is deficient when it comes to costume shots. IMO, costume/worn accuracy is what makes a mask stand out. I know it might be impractical due to having 15 masks listed, but I’d enjoy seeing you post 2 of the best representative costume pics for each piece. For example, I’d say you could use Paul’s (50-one-50) 4 stamp costume shots, Jon’s (Jon Dano) pics of the Kh and Db2 (Matt L’s copies), Matthew Mayhem’s Maniac pics, Kaizu’s Creep pics, and so on and so forth as terrific costume representations for such pieces listed.
I’ve been comparing all of mine side by side in he same lighting, so this is good timing. The only ones in the poll I don’t have (but have many pictures of) that I’d consider are the DB2 and 2K (I’d consider the '98 as well, but the 75K is on here and it’s a better version of the '98 and '99). I have both versions of the 75K, both MMK’s, 23.5 and 24" Vintage 75’s (different face shapes), the Shat, a '99, a Rarer, a Psycho, an NMM78, and a Nightmare proto (with more detail than any other version) and Nightwatcher.
Out of the lot I have the old mold MMK and new mold 75K as standing out a little ahead in terms of accuracy (shape and details) and I’d bet on the 2K being right with them going by all of the pics of the final mold. The old mold 75k has a fantastic shape, but lacks some detail the new mold has and side by side the new mold has a slight shape edge.
I’m judging based on both film hero and overall Kirk accuracy in terms of the unworn shape of the mask (and the shape as worn by Tommy Lee Wallace as it’s not stretched) and detail.
I really hope the KH/DW don’t win the voting. It’s obviously nowhere near as accrete as others. I’d love to own one, because its rare, but would NEVER buy one with the prices people are selling them for. I don’t care if its limited to only one copy, it’s not the most accrete so therefor its not worth the big price tag imo. I think it’s just the fact that the KH/DW was at one point the “must have” mask. Now better things are here & a lot of people don’t want to accept it. So my vote goes for the 75K.
I don’t care what the source is for the mask, just as long as it looks good. It could be a pressing (NMM78), a laser scan ('98), a re-tool (Rarer), a lifemask based sculpt (2K), or a ground up sculpt (DB2), it doesn’t matter to me the source, what matters to me is the end product. I think appreciating the work going into each individual mask is another thing entirely (and then I’d look to the DB2 and 2K as my choices).
For me there is no better worn mask than the KH/DW mix in that it’s the only mask that was sculpted with the hero right in front of the artist. It’s a no brainier. There have been tons of “it” masks over the years but most fade away. This mask is over ten years old and for some nothing has topped it. The same could be said about the 4 stamp NMM. It probably won’t win but take this poll again in ten years and this mask will still be there.
^^^That’s what I’m talking about Paul (50-one-50)! I keep trying to re-edit and speak on the topic of certain masks mentioned, but the screen has refreshed twice on me near the end, so I suppose that’s a sign to keep my damn mouth shut I will say this real fast the top 2, upper echelon masks listed that take the best pictures from whatever angle you throw at them are the 2k and the Db2. The 2 Db2’s that I have always had a hard on to wear for H1 costume shots are Benny and Matt L’s copies.
I’ve never understood the hype for the KHDW. It’s a neat story that it used the hero as the reference, but still, aside from a few angles it isn’t a very accurate mask IMO. I do think they have really cool paintjobs and I’d like to see more masks done up in that style. The 75K is the best replica Kirk available without a doubt, but I’ve never felt it looked right converted. Even then, it looks more Kirk than Myers. To me, it’s between the Creep and the NMM78. Of those two I think the Creep is more consistent from copy to copy, but the best examples of NMM78 top it (not always 4 stamps either). I voted NMM78.
FYI, I have none of these masks so my opinion is based purely on what I’ve seen. I have no dog in this fight.
**_Keep the votes coming. There were quite a few more nominations than votes so far, everyone’s vote counts and if you do NOT vote then you can’t complain about the outcome!
There’s still plenty of time to change the outcome of the top ten Myers masks…VOTE!
1st off not blowing smoke up anyone’s asss…Come on… These shots should speak volumes to anyone who loves the film Halloween & wants to see a representation of what Myers looks like with all the accuracy and vibe. The 2k done by James captures H1 perfectly shown here.
Thanks, Kris & Bobby. Grabbed the few i liked on the first 4 pages of my photobucket…
((((Sigh))))) ahh the DBII…Ironic ain’t it???..It’s not a good thing when certain parts of the mask have been photoshopped & then put next to a screen cap Anyway.
It’s funny as there is a pattern noticed. Anyone who has or does own a KH or a NMM78 (4-stamp) say’s nothing bad about it…Nothing…Ever & both have been here for over 10 years now…Show where somebody has owned one & sold it saying they didn’t like it. It’s usually the 98% of people who have yet to hold one in person or own one that give the most critiques about it. Nothing at all wrong with that as that’s what photo’s are for the most part. Has nothing to do with being "special or anything like that but being in the right spot at the right time. Dennis will tell you, i had to battle with Mayhem for my #2 copy NMM78 but i got it…
Photos are great & all but out of over 2k photo’s i have taken of my old NMM78, i have captured that kirk look…And Myers look all in one just a few times i think, then again it’s been awhile since i looked thru all the pics taken. The below mug shot is the closest though as i can see a kirk in it…Then obviously Myers…
You would really have to own one to get the full appreciation for it.
Ever talk to a girl over the computer for a couple months…She sends pics…You send pics…She’ll send a few more & after seeing 10-20 pics of her you finally meet…
((ehh emm)), it’s mostly always just a little different in person no matter how many photo’s seen of her. To see it in person is much different then most photo’s shown
Benny would be the latest example. I happened to love the NMM78’s as soon as i saw one… End of game for me fellas. That was it! I loved it before i got it as i knew in person i would understand it better…Once i got it? Shhhhhhhiit! Done deal for me & i have had my 20-25 different Myers masks.
Kris, i will use your own noggin against you.
