Wow…all I can say was the film was garbage. FRIGGIN’ TERRIBLE. In any event, here’s a few notes and thoughts that I had during and after the film:
***I had really been thinking this was going to be REALLY REALLY REALLY bad all week long–then, a few hours before we were going to see it (my gf and myself) I started to get alittle excited–I mean, Jesus Christ–I’m going to see MICHAEL FRIGGIN MYERS on the big screen again–this jubilation didnt last long tho…we went to the last show of the night–9:45pm…there were a total of about 10 or 12 people in the theater–with about 4 leaving early–and another two RUNNING for the exits during the last scene–not even waiting for the credits–and it wasnt from fear either…at least, not the fear that Rob was hoping for, I’m sure…
***While this movie was alarmingly bad–it was actually better then the Remake…Michael was terrific, and I dont see how anyone could say anything negative about Tyler Mane–the guy has got the chops to play a brutal killer. I would love to see him play Jason…tho I could have done without the grunting (which wasnt his fault), other then that, Mane was great. Laurie on the other hand…oh man…what a TERRIBLE portrayal! “I’m Michael Myers sister! Dude! What am I gonna do!?”–gimmie a break! Ive seen better acting in grade school plays. And what the hell was up with that friggin IDIOTIC ending?!?
***Loomis. Wow…they screwed this character up. Now, the acting was pretty good but the character itself was just abysmal! He suddenly did a 180 from the way he was just ONE YEAR AGO? Gimmie a break. Not to mention that his parts were not even needed in the film! He literally had nothing to do the entire time until the last reel–and even then it was like “Oh Wait…we need to put him in here somehow…”
***Rob Zombie…hmmm…this is a toughie. I like Rob Zombie. God help me, Im a fan of his—but not his filmmaking. The guy is a hack director. Hes a one trick pony and rehashes the same idea over and over again. All of his movies are essentially all based around the same movie, just moved around abit. But I LIKE Rob Zombie. I dont agree with all the personal attacks I see about him on here–I mean, the guy makes bad films–but that doesnt mean hes a bad guy… The guy does have his strengths – Ive liked his music all the way back to the White Zombie days and I think he is a real genuine horror fan–but that still doesnt give him the ability to write and direct a film. I remember back in the White Zombie days, he started directing the music videos…and they were some of the WORST videos I have ever seen (anyone want a laugh? Look up what I think is his first music video–THunder Kiss 65…it is laugh out loud terrible).
***As I said earlier, I do think this was better then the Remake…but that doesnt mean its good. A less smelly turd is still a turd. I cant believe Im saying this–as this is HARD for me to admit but Halloween: Resurrection is better then BOTH of these films. At least that FELT like Halloween. RZ actually did himself and everyone a favor by NOT sticking to the original storyline–because all we would have had was an even worse sequel to the Remake…at least this one had a few shining spots, tho not many. My GF (who is not one of the “horror fans” but does enjoy an occasional horror film) told me she thought Rob Zombie’s two films are two of the worst films she has ever seen—any its not because of the violence. We both burst out laughing SO MANY TIMES–especially at Sherri Moon Zombie’s appearances. God, she seems SO OUT OF PLACE—and the damn horse just looked like it was thinking, “God…what the HELL am I doing here!? Wheres my agent!?”
In the end, my gf and I kept checking our watches because the movie was nearly putting us to sleep and we actually thought about leaving early but I will NOT leave a Halloween film early, I just CANT do it. All in all, Im a total mark and will still buy it for my collection on DVD or Blu-Ray–and itll probably make a profit on DVD–but I am very glad that Rob and Halloween are parting ways–I wish the guy luck, I mean, theres an audience out there for his films…somewhere…
