Have the methods to keep this mask in good condition after a few hours of wearing them kept yours ok? Wiping out with a damp rag, drying it, and dusting cornstarch? I know that I sweat a ton wearing mine and do the best I can to take care of them, just curious if any of the long term wearers have ran into any issues or have good news about it
There’s a lot of factors really. I’ve seen masks that have been unworn start to rot quickly, and I’ve seen some that look mint that have been worn a lot. If you really care about your masks, don’t wear them and sweat in them.
Keep your masks locked away where no light can get to it where it is pitch black. Put a Boveda pack in there too and replace every 6 months. Boveda packs regulate the temperature and constantly absorb moisture or output moisture as a reaction to its condition. As latex is organic and water is the only thing holding it together which is why it will eventually rot away once the water evaporates, this is important. Boveda packs are ridiculously cheap too.
Look at how the hero mask is currently being stored. In a dark room with no light and where the temperature is being regulated. That mask is falling too bits so has to be kept there indefinitely. I’m sure it will be fine to get your mask out every year for Halloween or once in a while to display by the window at night when you watch Halloween! But just make sure you clean it afterwards if you wear it, never get lazy with that. Then store it away again in a dark room with a Boveda pack.
Look at Sean Clark’s 75 Kirk. That thing is in such good condition and the original owner just kept it locked away in his cupboard on a stand in the dark for years! It’s obviously hardened up, because a lot of the moisture has evaporated over the years. That’s why Boveda packs are really important as they will help your mask keep its moisture from evaporating.
