So recently I had visited a local spirit Halloween stoped in my area and picked up a h40 mask from tots, the overall condition of the mask wasn’t the greatest, the eye cut outs were awful and the paint was more awful then the usual awful paint job it generally comes with. So I ended up returning the mask and planned on ordering from tots site, however I swung by a “party city” and saw nothing but the same paint jobs, the eyes cuts were good though. BUT THEN… I saw HER in the way back of a rack and grabbed her and that was it! I am very pleased with how this one came out. The mask is way more white then the usual ones I see that DONT get rehauld. Anyways I’m very pleased and thought I would share with y’all! Hopefully I uploaded the pics right
HOLY SHIT!!
That’s definitely one of the nicer looking stock copies.
Great copy, He is definitely one of the better stock copies I have seen.
Thanks!! I definitely got lucky from the majority of the stock ones I have seen! I’m glad i don’t have to worry about getting it rehauled quickly
This years TOTS H18 masks are really spectacular. I’m seriously considering not getting their first runs anymore, which always seem to have issues. The second years runs always seem to fix the issues that were present in the first years runs. Guess that makes sense. They figure out what works and what doesn’t, and fix the issues.
So what would mine be?? I pre ordered in Feb. and got it in March. Still looks like the ones from 2018
I would consider that still in first run territory. It usually takes a year or two before they really iron out the kinks and start turning out consistently better copies. The ones you will find in stores this year will be a mix of older copies and newer copies. Next year I bet they look more consistent across the board.
The artists on the assembly line at the factory slowly over time get better at each mask they make. Then after a couple years they all start looking much better. The first year or so of a new TOTS mask is up or down or all around. Give it a couple years and things get much better. I have seen it happen in all of their products, not just the Myers stuff. Once each artist really learns the look and gets used to doing it over and over, things really start to shape up.
Same happened with their H2 and H6, as the years went by they got better and more consistent. Same will happen with their H78 and so on. I would say their H4 is without a doubt the best they ever put out as a first run. Although they did have the neck issue, which they have since fixed. I have the party City copy, but also had one on pre-order from TOTS, which has shipped yesterday.
The H4 is probably one of their best first run masks to date, partly due to not needing a ton of detail work. Mostly one shade of white and a solid hair job, and it’s all in the sculpt after that. Damn good mask in the H4. Dollar for dollar, the best mask they are making right now as far as first runs go.
The H78 is right up there too, but I feel that one will get even better in time just as everything else does.
As I mentioned in my last post, here is an example of the H6 and how it got better over time. On the left is my first run H6, and on the right is one from about 2 years later. You can see how the details and color got way better over time.
The only issue I have is that the first run H6 masks had more screen accurate hair, where as these later runs have that more synthetic rug hair. I tried to zoom in on the hair to show the difference.
The hair on the first run H6 never needed and ounce of hairspray. It holds perfect as is and never got out of whack. Where as the later runs need some spray or else they poof out into a big fro.
Those are def good looking masks!! Your absolutely right about as time goes on…however they do appear to be slacking on the hair!
