Got my Halloween Three-Pack BLURAY last night!

Well, I came home after work yesterday, to find my Amazon.ca box waiting for me. For $19.99, they were selling the last 3 Halloweens of the original series in Blu-Ray, and thought I’d offer a quick (and I mean quick) and dirty review of the films.

First off, all THREE movies are on one disc, with absolutely NO EXTRAS (aside from the French Audio track, and DTS Tru-HD audio and Dolby Digital 5.1. Quite disappointing…

Halloween: Curse of Michael Myers in my eyes, actually had the best transfer out of these films. Believe it or not, the colors were very vibrant and clear. And right off the bat, I noticed the detail on the cult leader’s robe at the beginning of the film, including more rune symbols and a giant eye on the hood. Never noticed that before. Also, my previous versions of the DVD were not in anamorphic widescreen. They were matted widescreen on a 4:3 image, and looked terrible on my 46" HDTV. THIS, however, looked fantastic, and I was very happy with “CURSE”

H20 is a slightly different story. The colors were a bit muddled, and not as vibrant. However, the image was crisp and clear, and you can TOTALLY make out all of the different masks with no problem. Plain as day. Including the H6 mask at the beginning. The audio was great as well (in comparison to the DVD).

Halloween Resurrection I quickly skimmed through. I had forgotten how much I dislike this movie. Although the transfer looks decent, it really suffers from the multiple cameras and qualities of these cameras. The sound was fine though, and has some good bass response.

H6, and 7 were presented in 1080i while Resurrection was 1080p.

All in all, for $20, a solid purchase, and definitely a step-up from the DVD’s.

I got mine last week and I agree with strangerathome on his review.

If you want extras…forget it!! Notta.

The transfer of Halloween 6 was the shining moment of this trio. The transfer is solid and you can see a significant difference between the Blu Ray an the old standard dvd’s quality. While not quite as spectacular as the transfer of Halloween (1978), it is still a HUGE improvement.

H20 was only slightly better but very little in my opinion. In some areas it appeared some mediocre effort was spent, in others it looks very little (if any) different from the standard dvd transfer.

Resurrection I could barely notice a difference. Very little effort put into this one.

The trio could have been much better but still yet for the price it is worth it for the good transfer of Halloween 6 alone!

Thanks for the well written review.
I finally pulled the trigger and purchased the Vizio XVT 42" @240hz along with a Sony Blu Ray. Naturally, the 1st movie I purchased was Halloween (1978). I was amazed and couldn’t believe my eyes. I am looking to expand the H1 series on Blu Ray and was wondering when and if Halloween 2 was going to come out. Anyone?

God, I’m hoping Universal gets their act together and releases Halloween II sometime soon on a jam-packed Blu-Ray edition. But knowing them, they really have no interest in what the fans want. It took Phantasm II 12 years to appear on DVD. They just care THAT much.

I hope that it does happen though, and SOON!

The picture and color for my H20 DVD was bad to begin with and your saying the Blu-Ray hasn’t changed that much?

Actually, T, the Blu-Ray is certainly a step-up from the DVD, but in terms of comparing it to other movies of 1998, I can’t say it looks that fantastic, and yes, barebones editions. Which is fine, i guess. Still worth the purchase, even if I’ll never watch Resurrection again!

got mine too just a lil mad that only h6 was full screen an the others were wide screen but theres nothing like michael myers in 1080 LED hi def lol

What’s in the Halloween Three Pack exactly, I mean is it from the first RZ H1 3 Pack, or something different?

Actually, they are ALL widescreen, just the last two (H20 and Resurrection) were shot in a 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio, or “Cinema Scope”, like the first three Halloween films. 4, 5 and 6 were done a little cheaper, and those directors decided to shoot in 1.85:1 aspect ratio, which is what “widescreen TV’s” in our homes are. In a theatrical presentation, the movies that are 2.35:1 are wider and fill out a larger area on the screen. They just need the black bars ontop and bottom for us at home!
