This topic has been a HUGE controversy and most likely will be forever I like to believe there was at least one LAMSON in the movie. LAMSON or DEXTER or something else or a mixture of a few? Well I offer these screen caps that probably donāt prove anything but hell this is fun right? CLOSET SCENE where Michael drops the knife. I tried to freeze the Bluray best I could and this is what I got I know they are still blurry but keep an open mind. I want to believe that is the LAMSON LOGO in there What do you guys think. Keep it FUN like it should be. Mike
Blurry with my LAMSON next to the TV screen to get an idea where the little LAMSON LOGO is on the knife:
Another with the LAMSON LOGO on my knife a bit clearer:
And the knife by itself as it hit the floor before bouncing over to the non logo side: This shot will NEVER be clear but you can see something there be it the LAMSON LOGO or shadow thats for you to decide
I did not know there was a controversy. Likely 2 or 3 knives were used. One with a more ornate handle we see some of in the film, and one we see the most of in the film with the particular āLamsonā hilt. That knife looks exactly like a Lamson and has itās characteristics. Itās the only type of butcher knife made at that time in the US that looks so like the one used most in the film.
Iāve heard it allā¦ Lamson, Dexter, Clyde, Henckels, F. Dickā¦
Of course Lamson is the one that was first talked about and it just stuck in a lot of our heads. Some just refuse to think any other knife was used, but thatās silly.
You can look at most of these brands and find certain knives that resemble the exact ones used in H1.
Out of all of them, I prefer the look and feel of the Dexters. I donāt even own a Lamson anymore.
I wish I could just collect them all b/c carbon steel vintage knives are so well made and a great conversational piece!
Great comparison pics,Mike.Definitely something on the blade in that still shot that is in the same spot as the Lamson stamp. However, like yo said,it could be a shadow. It is certainly the same shape.Very intriguing.
With all of that stated,I own 2 Dexterās and one Lamson.Even though the Lamson has a very rich look to it,I feel the Dexterās look more like the knife in the film overall.I definitely love me my Dexterās.
GREAT post and excellent comparison,Mike.Good eye,my friend
Well the only thing I DO know is that this one is NOT a Lamson, not a Dexter either. The handle shape and design is much different. I make a replica with this handle detail and call it my āLaurieā knife.
Yeah I noticed that too James and thatās a nice sales plug for JC REPLICAS J/K bro. I took a long look at those two particular scenes on Bluray and noticed those characteristics on that knife. Not only the curvature of the rear part of the handle but the placement of the rear rivet being a little farther back than on a Lamson. I already believe that there were multiple knives used during the filming of Halloween it makes sense. My only thought was with how clear Bluray is I was hoping to possibly see something that would help reveal at least what one of those knives actually was. Whether you care or not it sure would have been cool to see that little LAMSON logo during one scene of the movie. At least for me it would. I prefer the LAMSON over all others but that is just my preference and if you favor a different brand than thats fine too. I really enjoy watching H1 and like most of us can watch it over and over. Thats what makes it so iconic in my book. Thanks for the replies. Mike Ohā¦ and I spelled CONTROVERSY wrong in my original title and had to edit it
I hear ya Mike. Please donāt take this as a sales plug guys! I have more than I can handle now Gimme a few weeks atleast.
Personally I dig the Lamsons 3 to 1 over Dexters because of the handle differences. The Dexters I have had was far more āup to dateā looking than the Lamsons. Thereās something about the true, vintage Lamson handles that just does it for me.
Man, ya know, I spent a lot of time watching the movie and the āa cut above the restā feature (blu ray) I paused it every single time you see the knife, sometimes it took me quite a while to freeze it in the right spot, but I got some good pics. Unfortunatly I accidently deleted all of them off the camera its not like they were definitive proof of the brand used but atleast there would have been some more āevidenceā to look through. There was one shot inpaticular where it looked like you could see a stamp of some sort on the handle when Michael stabs through the coach (hard to freeze unless you have slow motion, which I dont) I cant tell what it said if anything but it looks to be in the same spot where you would see āLamsonā or āDexterā or whatever. Really, I just prefer a knife thats the same shape and size and Im good.
Hey JC still gotta order one of your knives soonā¦ Notice in the above picsā¦with poor ole Randy hanging aroundā¦LOL Look at the handle the very end of the knife where the wood bulbs aroundā¦kind of like a birds eye grip on an old pistolā¦it actual look like your Laurie knife as opposed to the Lamsonā¦see how the knob is sharper like the Laurieā¦By the way love that you offer so many different styles brother!!!
I gotta say though (nothing against either of you above) that the kind of dedication to really capture the ālookā to find the model of the knives is great. Great example of fandom, imo.
