H3 Skull Mask

I was digging in my old junk for Halloween and found this old skull mask my dad would wear every year when I was a kid. Ive known for a few years that it was from the movie Halloween 3 but I never could find any good info on it “mostly from the fact I always typed in RON Post by mistake”. He got it at a yard sale before I was born mid 80s some time. The guy told him it was used in a movie “No I’m not saying it is from the movie at all I’m just telling the story I was told about it” the guy didn’t know what movie it was from and he just said it was in a movie … my dad could have miss understood what he was saying. but he always thought it was from some 70s exploit film or something and wasn’t worth a dime … anywase,I saw the movie a few years back and was all shocked but I also read they sold the masks to promote the movie so I didn’t get to excited and now the more I read about them the more confused I get … red ones… small ones… ones with closed eyes … ones that glow … brown ones … ones with latex … ones with vinyl… I just can’t tell what I have and I’m hoping someone on here might?

inside the mask … think its vinyl <.<

thats black vinyl.
great mask!

That mask is simply known as the “Skull” from Don Post, and it’s been re-released many times in different colors and materials. The one you have there is indeed black vinyl, probably cast in the early 80s, and is one of the most pristine copies I’ve seen…Be careful not to chip off any of that paint! Somebody here is sure to pay you top dollar for the mask if you ever decide to sell it.

Does it glow? If not, then it’s potentially worth even MORE money…A few non-glow versions of this mask were actually featured in the background of the film “Halloween 3”, as some scenes were shot inside Don Post studios while the masks were really still in production. Non-glow versions are much more rare than glow versions and are very desired within this community.

Cheers,

Ryan

Great find! Yup, that’s the H3 version of the skull mask and isn’t easy to come by nowadays. I spent a couple years looking for a mint copy until I finally lucked up. Ryan is correct, the glow versions show up more often but fact is nowadays ALL original vintage DP masks are getting scarcer by the minute. It seems that so many have just tossed them after using them for years, while only a few collectors really take care of them. The vermillion skull is the rarest of them all and highly sought after. I don’t believe it was seen in the H3 factory though. Here is my trio… only took me 5 years to get these guys.

Glow skull on the left, Vermillion in the middle, H3 on the right (all in mint condition). Check out the cool orange vinyl in the Verm skull.

I love these guys!

Very nice :sunglasses:
Who knows what gems our parents or relatives may have

Great Score, great mask, it’s in pretty good condition.

That mask is awesome…Thats definately a keeper

Hey guys …

Thanks for the great info. I figured it was the 80s reissue black vinyl non-glow but I had to be sure. Let me get this out of the way since Ive already got a few offers for it. I’m not selling it. I just wanted to find out more about it. Now that’s out of the way I can brag a little  Its in perfect condition and I have it a rub down with a damp towel since I took these pics and it looks flawless … there’s no tares or chips in the paint “I don’t think this paint could chip” now I feel like collecting the red and glow versions

Love this mask – what amazing condition that is in, and so tough to find.
I recently scored one of the original DP Myers Masks and am very happy with it.
Would love to have all 3 of the original ones produced by DP for sale to promote H3.

The Pat Newman 1967 large White Skull was the first year released. (Brown, beige or black vinyl.) Don Post Studios made a smaller version in the mid 70’s. The Halloween III Skull that was released from DPS in 1982/83 was the 1976/67 mold Skull, was smaller. The larger 1967 or the smaller 1976/67 Glow Skulls are actually the harder ones to come by. They sold well, but the white skulls always beat’em.

:open_mouth: Damn thats one hell of a lucky score!

Here is a little more of the mask and the difference from the silver shampain latex version.
Good to see my childhood memories of Halloween go beyond just a simple skull mask.
