I usually buy indie masks when I buy them. So far Ive bought the 75KSE, PS78, Warlock, Creep, H2SM.
My question is, for those of you who own any H4 mask, I cant see a huge difference in any indie mask vs a ToTs and since its a pretty simple sculpt already, is there much benefit to going the Indie route? Hopefully someone can weigh in on it
I would go indie the only reason I say that is because I have Tots mask that I’ve keep on display in the dark I don’t really wear my masks and yet some of them have started to rot around the neck area already. I know ToTs doesn’t use as quality latex as the Indie masks now but if I want a mask for the long haul I definitely go indie. I’m not knocking ToTs or anything I’m a Huge fan of Justin’s work and own many of his pieces.
It’s just hard to see these mask start to rot when I’ve got indie mask that were made 16 years ago still going strong in prefect condition…
I know there only $60 masks but I like my myers to be around for awhile if you know what I mean!
Here’s an example of a ToTs H20 i refinished that has started to rot around the neck area.
I own the TOTS H4 and can say I’m satisfied with it. It’s probably the only TOTS mask you can get that needs nothing done to it because it really captures the H4 look so well right out of the box. The only real issue with the TOTS H4 is it’s a smaller mask, so if you want to wear it, keep that in mind. I have a 23.5 inch head, and had to extend the slit in the back of the mask to get a better fit. Honestly, considering it’s a mass-produced mask for $60, you really can’t go wrong.
Dang! Was it worn heavily by any chance? Could be the main contributor to rot! I know you take great care of your masks, so care is out of the question haha!
I would definitely go indie route since it has a lot more details and care into it but if you want to cosplay in your masks, I often choose a converted or overhauled TOTS mask! I never wear indie masks haha
I actually still have my original 2012 first run TOTS H2 and no rot yet. In fact I have first runs of the H6, the H4 and 5, etc. None of them have rot yet. I have worn all of them. I do wipe them down and starch them though, and they are on display in a temp controlled room with no windows. So that may help the situation. I really think it’s luck of the draw really. Apparently I’m just lucky with the TOTS masks.
I wonder if TOTS changed their quality of latex!
