H4 poster origin

This has always bugged me so much. Does anyone know what what the origin of this photo is?

Arguably one of the clearest full photos we have of the mask from 78-81. But for the life of me have never seen the origin of this photo. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen the fuller image of the one I’ve attached above. What I mean is where is the photo from? Is it from 78 or 81? Where exactly was the photo taken? Even the original it almost looks like it’s stitched together and doesn’t look like any other BTS photo I’ve seen before. Which is cool because it’s one of the best ones we have of the mask itself.

It’s from 81, here’s a scene that resembles it

From my point of view, according to its weathering degree and stretching state, this is the stills from the film in 1981.

Definitely agree with this

my all time fav pic!

i actually put out a reward , years ago, for anyone who could find me an original high detail copy….many tried and failed-lol I was told it was used for a press kit cover and the picture had increased detail. I tracked down pics of the press kit, however it was pretty much the same quality, with a few minor exceptions around the hair.

I even talked to Dick Warlock about it. I tried to convince him, that its him wearing the mask, and did he have any story behind it. He told me he doesnt think its himself in the mask. He said when he first started doing cons, he brought the mask with him and slipped it over a book at his table.. People were crazy over it..taking pics, wanting to handle it, etc. so he stopped bringing it with him. He believes this famous pic, is one that someone took while it was on the book. ….so i guess i didnt convince him, but i’m still working on it-lol

i recently sculpted the NOVEL COVER MASK and think i did a decent job at replicating this look. I also ran the highest detailed copy of the pic i could find, thru an ai genorator- i was stunned at the quaility!

To me, it produced the picture quality that i have been searching years for….I’m done now  Nick M

I thought I heard something about the mask on the H4 poster being from a painting? Is this true?
