Just wanted to know what people usually go with when painting h40s
Very nice indeed I’ll do dry brush method
Shanks alot man.
Ya, it’s better for bringing out the faint details and having the understructure bleed through with all its subtle glory.. Can also give some nice weathering type touches depending on how you blend it with the white.
BTW , if you want the mask to last, flip it inside out, push the ears, nose (and nostrils ) all the way out, and liquid latex/acrylic the whole thing, then seal with latex. You’ll have to tape all the holes with painters tape (not regular masking tape. ) this would be the first thing you do, before painting the front.
All good, just felt like you were in crisis mode. Lol I know what that’s like too, with halloween around the corner.
I’m wondering if maybe my paint jobs were failing because I wasn’t using a flatbrush.. I have a set of designated drybrushing brushes, but they’re domed.
You can use a paper towel and a sponge — it’s all about technique.
Hmm i can see paper towel/sponge being a bit tricky for the underlayer for the DGG trilogy masks. Sponge would eat up paint quick. But would be interesting to try. Would prolly work great for H5/H6 masks, they have patchy looking finishes.
Yes , use a flat brush , be sure to thank me later lol; get a bunch of varying sizes @bartman
very little paint , two ways to use it, gliding lightly over details, or very quick back and forth dusting (works fantastic for the very faint details i.e cracks. ) also allows for more control, more concentrated bristles compared to dome, or makeup style brushes.
Got another layer done, thats it for tonight made good progress, all of it done with flat brushes . I can confirm using the detergent (dip and pull excess off brush) works great to keep the paint from gunking up as well as the brush and allows more work to get done before you need to coat it again. I went back to latex and acrylic need a bit more stick to avoid filling in small deets. Couple more passes tomorrow and should be good for next stage.

Looking good man! Almost like my Ends mask was coming along before I shelved it. I decided to go ahead and order that latex you talked about, just to give it a go before buying more expensive paint. Also got the flat brushes
Have you got any masks you did using any of those techniques @Myers13Halloween ? Im just interested in seeing the results. Always good to have options, learn new things. I guess going with that mindset for the sponge/paper towel, you could do stippling with a makeup up type brush.
Thanks dude and , nice buddy. Which one did you order? And ya this is like my 4th attempt at this mask. Think im gunna get it right this time. ![]()
Any pics on your first dry brushing attempts?
Making me relive all my failures huh? Lol
I have more just need to dig. The 2nd and third pics are doing the dry brushing for the all white than black/bown wash method. I just found getting the details like cracks to get more defined was a pain in the ass, but looking at it now i should have just tried to use a fine brush and go over them individually, time consuming but i probably could have got it looking alright instead of scrapping and starting over. Last photo shows wash attempts. You can see the left side (your left) is the pain in the ass , under the left eye and coming down toward the mouth and nose. You’ll encounter this on the H40 , its cuz the details arent cut deep enough to allow paint to skip the cracks easily.
The H6 i just went to heavy with the white and covered over the understructure too much.
