H5 'Expanded' Score (2013 Mixes) - Why?

Alrighty.

I’ve been working on a Halloween 5 fanedit and needed tracks from the score to fill certain scenes and transitions.

I guess I hadn’t really noticed this before, but the ‘Expanded’ version of the Halloween 5 score (used again for the Mondo vinyl) has two versions of each track - the 1989 original mix and a 2013 new mix.

Can anyone with more knowledge educate me on why the 2013 mixes are terrible? Not only is the sound quality and mixing far below the standards of the 1989 versions, but there are a ton of weird choices made by Howarth also.

For example, compare the main theme (when Michael floats down river). In the '89 mix, it’s bold and anthemic. In the '13 mix, there seems to be a completely unrelated track playing underneath that throws the entire thing off. Then there’s the end credits theme, which has a completely different structure to the '89 version - as in, it sounds like a drunk person is playing it.

If anyone can shed some light on this, I’d love to know more. These 2013 versions are genuinely baffling and a truly unpleasant listen.
