Yea, this is the first I’ve heard this theory. It’s always been said that Shanks broke his nose and that’s where the appliance came in.
I have always wondered how an added appliance helped his broken nose in any way. Like Richard Vandark said: it was just pasted on top of the original nose, so it’s not like the inside of the mask got any more spacious. By the way, how did SSN reproduce the nose appliance? Is it something that could be added to the Ghastly Pro mask?
The picture of the mask (owned by Shanks) Austin posted has the nose appliance.
Three masks were used for the film…The two primary hero’s out of the three have distinctive eye cuts.
One of them owned by Shanks, the other is rotting away in Akkad’s office. Not sure what happened to the third mask which I assume was used for the rirver stunt scene.
The nose and mouth appliance was taken by SSN from Don Shanks’ personal screen used, the one in the above photo.
SSN restored the mask for Shanks and did a cast of the nose and mouth appliances at the same time.

I assume when they are pulled from the mold they are much longer, probably no line to show where to cut.lol
I was told the H6’s are that way(long) and were trimmed for the film.

Well…Scott also had another KNB blank. He finished it and also sold to private collector (Harvey).
I’m glad this thread popped up because I just ordered a Ghastly Pro H5. Been on a quest since Oct 2013 to have at least 1 mask for each Myers film. Just picked up a Crofader H4 mask can’t wait to get home from working in PA to open it! This thread gave me good H5 info!
