So I’m sitting here at the moment watching Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (AKA Halloween 6: The Producer’s Cut). I’m sitting here wondering, where did the Producer’s Cut tape come from? Was it filmed with a video camera in a movie theater by a fan? If it wasn’t, how did it end up in the hands of a Halloween fan? I’ve just always wondered. I’ve always wondered the same thing for all of the workprints of the Halloween films. How do we have all of these rare cuts? Someone please tell me.
Special unreleased cuts leak onto the internet in various ways and for many diffrent reasons. Usually they are stolen and leaked by “someone” who works for the film industry. There is also screeners wich are sent around to Hollywood stars so they may review the movies and talk about them on talk shows if they want, or just for the pleasure of viewing a movie first then anyone else. Usually all movie stars get the DVD’s sent on the mail for them so they can watch the movies first then anyone else. Halloween 6: The producers cut has nothing to do with any fan or any fan leaking or filming the movie for that matter. The first copy of it was stolen from the studio by someone unknown to us, this was a VHS copy that was terrible. over the years fans have tried to remaster the tapes using various tools that you can download to sort of clean up the mess from the VHS copy, the first copys of the movie that went on sale back in the day where terrible almost unwatchable. Today there is DVD’s out there on sale with 9 out of 10 quality in both picture and sound. (near DVD quality)
Hope this helps…

That actually helps alot! Thank you! It was Daniel Ferrands who stole the H6 P-Cut VHS I have a pretty good copy of the Producer’s Cut. I wish “whoever” stole the tape had grabbed a better one though
Do you happen to have a screenshot of what the P-Cut’s quality looked like before it was remastered by fans?
There is tons of youtube videos around for you to compare some look good some look like the old VHS i had. I put it in the trash when i got the DVD updated versions that are ten times better.
I can’t say this for certain, but no doubt while the film was still in the editing stages (and before the obvious color correction to a blue wash we are familiar with in the theatrical cut) I gather that a copy was duped to VHS for either a producer or even someone higher up (Weinsteins perhaps) to watch. This is what could have sparked the producers to hold a screening with what they had, and then decided to re-shoot/change story elements.
In an editing house, this is a menial job (duping/copying.etc), and the editor on the film would certainly not be making VHS dupes for someone. I can assume that this was swiped by a “lowly” editor’s assistant that worked at the editor house, and could POSSIBLY have been a fan and decided to make a copy of it for himself, and then distribute it…
When I was in college many moons ago (95 to be exact) I had access to the internet, and that is where I scored my first bootleg VHS of this. And I’m sure it was a 5th or 6th generation VHS copy (copied 5 or 6 times at least) and I managed to have it in my house before Christmas of '95. It was awesome!
AGREED… No it was not Dan…
its not uncommon for multiple versions and cuts to be made… its likely this was ripped especially when word of the Chappelle reshoots were being made… that some one wanted to snatch it up “just in case” likely a fan on set who saw the horror that was coming…
I think its likely (some individuals do come to mind as likely suspect) that due to the amount of fans that worked on the set heard of the Dimension mandated changes to Farrands’ script that some one rescued a copy of “666” from being butchered…
honestly my favorite versions are closer to the original rough version with the running numbers…
