Read the Many Faces of Michael Myers article posted here, and was wondering what was the story behind of mask being destroyed by a disgruntled fx artist?
Not sure what actually happened but I was told that there was lots of pressure on set since this was the first Halloween to be made by a major company. Lots of reshoots were done in order to satisfy the demands of the company, thus resulting to a few different versions of the film circulating on the net. Keep in mind the director had no interest in making a Halloween movie but was doing it for the 3 picture deal he was promised in the contract. Tensions grew during shooting, supposedly due to extensive reshoots, cutback on pay, etc…which resulted in having an angry employee destroying the masks…
I’m sure there’s more.
As Doc Brown and Marty McFly search 2002 to prevent further plans of terrorism, they come across a movie entitled Halloween Resurrection. Disgusted and horrified, they go back to the year 1994 and track down the hollywood fx artist in question. They explain that the abomination of a movie (Halloween Resurrection) must NEVER happen and to take some sort of precautionary measure. So while shooting H6, he mixes a special chemical agent (invented by Doc Brown) to pour with the masks that will begin deteriorating them at a fast pace.
I guess he assumed that by destroying the masks, it would somehow prevent sequels to be made. I don’t know where he go that idea from, seeing as how they could just hire another artist to sculpt a mask (like they did in H20), but his attempts were admirable. Anyone willing to save the Halloween franchise by doing what is completely necessary is okay in my book.
Some of this info I’ve never heard but after some of the mask issues they were dealing with, they went to Don Post Studios and Don Post made some of the masks for the movie. And, it wouldn’t surprise me if DPS still has a mold of this mask lying some where around.
I’ve always wondered about the process of creating the reshoot mask for the climax. Did they sculpt from scratch? Or were they able to clay press one of the existing masks and retool from there? And…
You’re right, Donnie. I never thought that my sarcasm could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the conversation, and destroy the entire thread! GREAT SCOTT!
Touching on the destruction of the Halloween 6 masks, if John Carl Buechler made them why couldn’t they have just asked him to do another one?
I mean, wouldn’t he still have the mold for it? Or is it movie policy, for this series, to only make a few copies of a mask, then destroy the master mold? lol
