Haired eyebrows in 1978's Halloween? No way...YES WAY!

Remember that picture of the Capt. Kirk that belonged to Bill Malone; you know, the one with haired eyebrows that Bill had made up identical to the one sold to the crew from Halloween?

Well, here’s the original one with HAIRED EYEBROWS being used in action in Halloween. It goes by so fast on screen that we miss it, but look close, those are haired eyebrows…not painted.

I actually stated this in an earlier thread made a year or so back but everyone just kept telling me it the lighting.

Huh, well just in case if I said it was lighting…I was wrong! That is hair right there and in the Halloween cast wrap up party you can see Tommy (I think!) wearing this mask.

Nah I don’t think so. It was just a “hey, I wonder if…” kinda thing. I once thought the eyebrows were painted on that mask, as well. That, however, was just lighting.

You can clearly see hairs there, though. Good eye!

I’ve heard people say it’s just lighting, but it’s clearly not. I always thought they must have been painted…never thought about the possibility of them being haired. So, this ‘stunt mask’ would have been done up by DPS? Perhaps the Hero was indeed the one converted by TLW, as it didn’t have haired eyebrows.

Let me throw this curve ball at ya…

Dark eyebrows…I don’t think any of the masks from Halloween had painted eyebrows. Hummmmmm.

I color corrected the shot above and cranked up the sharpen. Hair on the eyebrows?

Ugh. Billy, you’re hurting my head!

Is this the Hero? I know it was discussed recently. It certainly looks like the Hero; it has the same dirt/dye mark on the forehead. The hair looks the same also.

I don’t know…isn’t it missing the hole in the neck? :exclamation: :bulb:

may have been taken before the hole? not sure. But it looks like the hero to me too. i think the cuts match

The photo was taken after the mask had the neck punctured. It has the caption “Saturday Night Live '80”.

However, like someone said recently, if you pierce a latex mask with a needle, it would close up and be nearly invisible. Later on in the mask’s life, it would begin to sag and expose it more so.

Theory:

When converting the Hero mask, the eyebrow hair is torn off. It removes whatever paint (if any) was on the sculpted eyebrows, exposing the brown/dark flesh latex. The mask is then painted white, covering the eyebrows. As the mask is worn/used/poorly treated, the white paint beings to come off the eyebrows, exposing the dark latex once again.

Thoughts?

Well, in the above pic you can see the area of the needle hole…and this was taken 2 years after Halloween. Devils advocate here. :smiling_imp:

Watch this video…watch at time 1:08 as you see Dick holding a piece of the mask area in question…you can see it’s a dark spot, much more prevalent than not.

In the SNL pic, it’s not there.

I think this is correct.

I still disagree. Ive looked at that pic multiple times and I can clearly see identifiable sculpted lines on the outer edge of the left eyebrow, lines which any good replica has added as well. Those lines, to me, indicate that the hair is very much so removed. there may be traces present but I still strongly believe that what you see is simply trickery caused by the lighting.

The glue left over from the torn eyebrows will cause a reaction with the paint thus causing the brows to look dark.

:drinkers:

Not to mention, lighting.

Really, are you sure? That is hair…no glue lines, hair. You can see the underline eyebrows painted white. (Like at DPS studios when they asked for some Kirks painted white and hair being placed on top like a normal Capt. Kirk. Clear as day.)
