Was the fabric used on the HalloweeN 1978 coveralls Herringbone? Many of the more vintage (Pre 80’s) Big Macs seem to have a Herringbone fabric and I was wondering if the coveralls in HalloweeN were in fact made with Herringbone fabric, since we never really do get a good look at them and I saw a discussion debating it on a certain other Halloween message board.
I don’t believe they were, personally. I think you’d be able to see the herringbone pattern pretty well in the schoolyard scene, as it reflects light strangely.
I have a pair of Montgomery Ward coveralls from the early '70s that are identical to Big Macs and they are just a solid weave.
Seem right to me!
No. Allot of people aquire “olivewood” Big Macs mostly with herringbone fabric which is completely incorrect or accurate to the film. The color of the coveralls were a faded spruce green and the material was most likely and seen on screen as cotton polyester mix.
To be honest, I don’t even think they were Big Macs at all. I’ve never seen a single pair of Big Macs that were accurate to the film, ever. Not one. I have at least three or four pairs myself. Out of all the coveralls I own Roebucks look the best to me.
I agree with you. I have seen ONE pair posted on here that were almost dead-on though.
My theory is that they had at least 2 jumpsuits that someone had lying around or purchased form a thrift store.
There is a lot more weathering on them than you’d think, so I’m betting that they were owned prior to filming.
The weathering on the cuffs changes from scene to scene as an example of why I think there were more than one pair.
4 main things to look for when searching for the “near” perfect pair of 1978 HalloweeN coveralls, and I say near perfect, because I have yet to find “the ones”. However it is seamless back, olive wood is the color (kind of a greyish brownie green mixture). They look green, blue, black, brown, grey, all depending on light. button hole collar, square pocket flap, (they are NOT SEARS OR ROEBUCKS) the stitching and flap size are different. I have a 1950 pair of Big Macs that fit the bill in every way, except they have the herringbone pattern, I do infact believe on screen they were a smooth blend (no pattern). In H2 they are spruce green Sears, NOT Roebucks, flap and stitching are little different on the two. Best bet, find some that are close enough that fit!!
I agree that the Big Macs may not be the one, none of them that I have seen are perfect to the film, I am thinking they may have been military coveralls or some other generic brand of the time.
I actually have an original pair of JC Penney Big Mack coverall in Olivewood. I got them soon after film was released back in the early 80’s. I will say the color of Olivewood is a combination muted green and grey color mix. It’s actually a very industrial looking color. Below link is from the Gallery of me wearing the coveralls.
Now that I look at the coveralls more, I do think that they are Big Macs but obviously tampered with and weathered, probably taken from a thrift shop and not clean off the JC Penney rack, so I do actually think some insignia and symbol may have been removed by the crew of Halloween, like the patch usually on the left pocket indicating fabric.
