"Halloween" 1978 Jack-O-Lantern mystery

How did the Jack-O-Lantern end up on the lamp table in the bedroom of the Wallace house in the scene with Bob Lynda, and Annie?

Only seven characters could have put it there:

1)Lindsey
2) Annie
3)Bob
4)Lynda
5)Lindsey’s parents
6)the shape

There is absolutely no reason why Lindsey would carve a Jack-O-Lantern and leave it lit in her parents bedroom.

Annie could have possibly helped Lindsey cut the pumpkin, but there was certainly not alot of time to do so. Annie could have put it in the bedroom knowing that Bob and Lynda were probably going to end up there. I guess it would be Annie’s way of saying,“I know what you two are up to!”

We know that Bob and Lynda did not bring a Jack-O-Lantern with them when they entered the house. So, was there enough time for them to go to the kitchen to cut a pumpkin that was already in there, and then simply carry it with them into to the bedroom? This is possible, but was there enough time to do this?

Now it’s probable that Lindsey’s parents helped her cut the pumpkin that we saw on the porch when Annie arrived to babysit. But, it is much harder to explain why Lindsey’s parents would have cut a second pumpkin and leave it lit in their bedroom.

It’s hard to figure out exactly how and when the shape could have put it on the table, but it is plausable that he brought it in along with the tombstone. But this begs another question: Where did the shape hide the tombstone when he brought it into the house? It seems he would have had to have made two trips into the bedroom before Bob and Lynda arrived.

Whoever put it on the table obviously had to have done it during the timeline after sundown. If not, the candle would have burned out.

So who do you think is responsible for the mystery Jack-O-Lantern? And when?

First I’m going to start off by saying I don’t think that much thought was put into it when filming. But if we are going to have fun speculating, then I would say it was The Shape. Time stands still when he’s setting his tricks and treats. :sunglasses:

i like to think the shape put it there, he’s always had a creative streak, and I assume he had the tombstone in the station wagon and brought it in maybe after

Yea, I guess the shape could have stolen it off the porch of another house on the street.

But just imagine the shape carving the Jack-O-Lantern himself! What a cool scene that would be!
