One of the things you don’t often hear talked about is the thickness of the Hero Mask. I only saw it brought up once from the guy who bought the Hero Mask from Dick Warlock. He said in an interview that people would be surprised how thick that mask is. If you have owned a 98 Shatner you know how thin those masks were.
If the Hero Mask is thicker than the others it supports the theory that Tommy Lee Wallace made the rough looking mask that you call Stunt Mask A, and Don Post Studios did the other ones that have a much better paint job and hair.
The final thing I will mention that leads me to believe the Hero Mask is a thicker pull are some of the behind the scenes photos. There is that photo of the mask standing up on part of the stair case. The other photo is of Nick Castle wearing it on top of his head. If it were a thin pull, like the one in the reveal scene, it wouldn’t stand up like that, it would bend or crease. That is why I believe Don Post did the other two masks B and C.
It’s a very interesting discussion for sure! I personally don’t believe the DP theory whatsoever but its very interesting to see the evidence surrounding them. Very interesting thing you noted here.
I’m not arguing haha, sorry if it came off that way man! I’m just pointing out the observable facts. That is where the truth lies, not in opinion and speculation. It’s not that I am trying to change your mind specifically, but as someone who’s worked hard to set the facts straight and has studied these stunt masks very in depth, I want to correct any falsehoods and put the right info out there for people to see.
You say the face reveal mask is “too clean” to be the hallway BTS/schoolyard mask but there is no evidence of that. In fact, there’s evidence to the contrary. There are multiple features in that match exactly between the reveal mask and hallway BTS/schoolyard photos. These details include shape and points of change in the eyecuts, hairline, sideburn glue marks, and paint that are not present on any other masks besides the “reveal mask” and the “bts hallway/schoolyard stunt mask”, as shown above. It’s already been confirmed that the reveal mask is the one being worn in the hallway BTS photos as illustrated previously.
Look at the photos we have of the school yard stunt and the reveal mask. You can clearly see the hallway reveal mask has more fleshtones than you are leading on:
Look here in the photo of Nick and John wearing the masks: You can see the color variation throughout black and white photos very easily. The red arrows point to a darker grey shade within the white on the mask, which would be flesh. These color variations (aka fleshtone) are pointed out by red arrows:
There is clearly flesh all over the neck of that hallway reveal mask, as is shown by the multiple clear photos we have of it. Your basis for saying the hallway mask is too clean is what? You can’t see the neck on it until you slow it frame by frame and even then, only one frame shows the neck (where we see flesh, not a clean white mask).
Have to agree with GhostlyShape here, I see some similarities in the right eye and what could possibly be some over spray of hair coloring on the forehead, photos are blurry because I blew them up but
In my opinion, i don’t believe that the burning mask seen at the end of H2 the Stunt Mask. After comparing some photos of the 2 masks, i’ve concluded it isn’t the same mask. Obviously i could be wrong, but i’d like to share my opinion on the subject.
Plus Don Post Studios had sent 2 Tramers and 3 Backup Kirks to the Production of H2.
This might sound stupid but, why would the production re-used a mask from the first movie when they could have just converted one of the 3 Kirks.
Plus, if you look closely, you’ll notice that the eyecut doesn’t match and the eyebrow are shorter.
