Halloween 2018 may ignore part II

The moment that they made Laurie and Michael Myers siblings – it also makes it not quite as scary,” he said on the Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show. “So all that kind of stuff to us… those are the things that took an amazing idea and took it somewhere it wasn’t quite as effective.”

Alas, even when we learned all this exciting new information about the project, it was still unclear exactly what McBride was saying in regards to the plot. The assumption was that the new film would be picking up sometime after the events of Halloween 2 (1981), essentially proceeding as if the original franchise never continued past that point.

Of course, we were hit with another massive bombshell just last week, which seems to have confirmed that Halloween 4 through Halloween Resurrection never happened in this particular version of the timeline. Jamie Lee Curtis will be reprising the role of Laurie Strode in the new film, revealed to simply be titled Halloween.

“Same porch. Same clothes. Same issues. 40 years later. Headed back to Haddonfield one last time for Halloween,” Jamie Lee Curtis tweeted this past Friday.

As for the story, Halloween ’18 will seemingly be set in Haddonfield on Halloween in the present day, centered on the final clash between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers.

And if the new movie is indeed “carving a new path from the events of the 1978 film,” it seems safe to assume that only the original Halloween happened in this alternate timeline. This would explain how Laurie Strode is still alive (she died in Resurrection, after all), and it also lines up with McBride’s previous suggestion that he and Gordon Green have erased Halloween 2‘s reveal that Michael and Laurie are siblings.

My best guess, based on everything we know? It would seem that they’re continuing the story 40 years after the original movie… and disregarding everything that came after.

What has Laurie been up to since 1978? We’ll find out on October 19, 2018.

I love 2. Almost more than 78, sometimes, but I understand why they would do this. 2 is written to end the first film and truthful Michael dies at the end. They pulled a Jason in 4 and just brought him back to life in a hospital and it doubled down from there. 2 just leaves no room for a continuation that makes sense in my mind.

Also, I like the idea of removing the sibling thing. I agree it makes it less random and less scary by giving Michael some motivation based off family history.

Anyway, it would be cool if the new film mentions 2 as a separate guy who just grabbed Michael’s clothes after Loomis shot him. A copy cat or something that was high on PCP haha!

Yeah, this sounds like great news to me, the only thing I’m worried about is if this is just going to be another H20 all over again, not that I’ve got anything against H20, it is a good movie, but not really one of my favorites to be honest.

I hope at least in this one, they will die together, so both get their way, instead of resorting to the H20 imitation, the sibling part made no sense to me, but I like part 2, I just don’t attach siblings to them and it’s still great

They should connect it with something about her being the one that dropped the keys off at the Myers house. If Halloween 2 never happened, I would have assumed he was going after her because of something with his old house and Laurie being the one who he sees as selling the home.

A-ha! I knew it was all about Real Estate

I’d be very happy about that. As much as I like H2, I’ve always hated the brother-sister/family aspect to the mythology.

I’m also interested in the timeline/story they are gonna use without making it like Halloween 2 and H20. If they advance in years from 1978 will there be no Loomis?

Some people seem to forget that back then when people saw the premiere of Halloween (or for their first time) they didn’t know that they’re siblings which makes it all the more scary cause we don’t really know why he’s after her. Carpenter doesn’t seem to hint it during the movie that they’re siblings which we can assume that they didn’t intend for them to be siblings until the 2nd movie. Hopefully this new movie plays out well.

Let’s not forget that in the original Michael is never referred to as “Myers.”

I always like to think that Judith Myers was babysitting one of the neighborhood kids named Michael “insert last name” who was not her brother. Then when Michael saw Laurie Strode at his house 15 years later, she reminded him of Judith Myers, and that’s why he was following her.

Yeah I mean Laurie doesn’t find out until she’s in the hospital in II that his name is myers.

I wonder how this is going to play out, only time will tell
