Halloween 2018 Review

Hey, guys. I’ve been doing some Halloween related videos over the last year so I thought I would share my thought on the new film ad I suggested I might doing during my ranking video (give it a watch if you haven’t!). So if you’re interested, enjoy!

Just gave your review a watch man. I agree this movie definitely did the franchise a favor and is by far the best entry we have had out of the series since the original.

As for the Easter eggs, they were done tastefully and in a way that doesn’t take you out of the movie. They were really well done. The comedy wasn’t that bad really and also was done subtly enough not to take away from the over all film. Could I have done without the father and his peanut butter joke, sure, but it’s so quick and over with it doesn’t hurt anything going forward.

The kid who was being babysitted who sees Michael in the closet, was a funny character and was entertaining leading up to the closet scene. Yeah he was a bit funny when Myers appeared, but for me that was just how that kid would of reacted, based on how he was naturally just talking with his babysitter. At any rate he’s out of the scene pretty quickly and humor turns to horror as that scene plays out, so it was well done in my opinion.

Outside of that, I think the film was excellent. Everything made sense to me and was definitely more grounded in a realistic setting that a broad range of people could relate to. This film definitely did a great job of making a world that most everyone could relate to and view as a reality of sorts.

So I agree with that about it being more grounded in reality versus the crazy stuff from part 6. I am a fan of part 6, both cuts, but I know I am in a minority with that. Even so, this new film crushes the thorn trilogy for sure. I am a thorn Myers fan, but they did a good job making me forget about those! Lol

All in all, a great well put together installment that felt fresh, but at the same time serviced the hardcore fans. And might I say, if people who saw this movie weren’t huge Halloween fans or have only seen some of the other films in passing, they would not have noticed any of the nods or Easter eggs from all the other films. Maybe one at the end they may have noticed, but outside of that, the Easter eggs were definitely only for hardcore fans that will dig and look for them.

Most of them were very subtle and not in your face. That’s one thing I haven’t heard many people say when they point out that the film has several Easter eggs related to the other films, is the fact that most of them are subtle and the casual movie goer won’t even notice it. To us hardcore fans, some might be glaring and obvious, but that’s because well, we’re hardcore fans! Lol

The Easter eggs and references being subtle and not being used in a way that takes you out of the movie or becomes incessant (ala Star Wars) was a point I originally was going to make that I forgot to.

Oh for sure man, I could tell that’s what you were getting at as it pertains to the Easter eggs. They were very subtle and nicely done in my opinion. They felt naturally placed and not forced.

It’s nice when people who’ve been watching this franchise for years get some nice fan service! I almost popped at the mention of Mr. Elrod, lol.
