Maybe this is old news to some of you but last I knew we only had an understanding of the concept of Etchison’s script based on Carpenter’s treatment. But I just discovered the entire screenplay online. Enjoy!
I had read this and it’s a interesting script, but I felt the second draft wasn’t getting much to like the characters, but the third draft improved it way better but the only disappointment I would give is that Sheriff Brackett is not there (only in the 2nd draft) but replaced with a new Sheriff named Hamilton. But it was a nice touch to see Lindsey, Tommy, Deputy Hunt, and Marion Chambers but last named changed to Stern.
Could’ve still been a interesting film with Joe Dante directing who Carpenter had him in mind for the director’s chair.
I thought it was a brilliant concept, just not executed well in the script. You can see how A Nightmare on Elm Street was probably a big influence. In fact, most horror seemed to start going more towards fantasy around this time (mid to late 80s). Had they of tweaked it a bit it may have been great. Even in its present form it would have been an interesting installment to the series, far more interesting than what we ended up getting.

I found it interesting that a few concepts seemed to end up in H4 like teenage boys dressing up like The Shape to confuse the cops and the firing squad of police shooting at The Shape.
Haven’t read the full script, but I am familiar with the premise. This was the way that Akkad could have successfully resurrected Myers without making him into a cheap clone of Jason Voorhees. The idea that Haddonfield has suppressed Halloween, leading to The Shape’s mysterious return, is genius. It’s a decade later, you can move on from Laurie and focus on an older Tommy and Lindsay and the return of The Shape. Instead, we got more family nonsense and ultimately diminishing returns.
That’s what I was thinking after the end of Halloween (2018). What if, whatever Michael is, keeps getting reborn? You can destroy the vessel but you can’t destroy the evil. And for all we know, “Michael” has been around forever doing the exact same thing. Except now, in the modern day where the name Michael Myers has become infamous, no matter who it is reborn as or what name it bears it is still The Shape/Michael Myers because that is the identity it is most feared as out of all the idenities it has taken over time.
