“The Mask” would be very much appreciated as well. I’d love to know the history behind this, as it was most likely very many people’s first “Myers” mask. Again, awesome stuff!! Can’t wait!
As promised, here are the pictures from my DP mask. I really don’t think there is any way at all you could argue against 1985 here. Please let me know your thoughts.
Just because it says 85, doesn’t mean it’s an 85. Look at the 98/99 DP Kirks. The 99 is really a 98 and vice versa. Now it looks like artists are going to re-invent “THE MASK” mask.
Hummm, now I’m completely thrown for a loop. The 1986 sculpt, the first issue from Don Post has no info on it. The mask is small, Kirk based, it seems and even has the ‘Halloween 4’ hair line. The 1987 sculpt, the one that everyone remembers seeing and having and is pictured here, was released in 1987. This info came from the Don Post catalogs. In the 1985 catalog, there is no ‘The Mask’ listed anywhere.
I think it’s time for me to talk to the main man about this.
See, this has turned into a completely different issue. Maybe a story about both masks is warranted here?
Let me see what I can find out from the main man and I will post it here.
no need to get hissy man, he was just askin for pic and made a mistake with the reading. youve already given out a ton of info so he was probably just anxious to see whatever it is you are waiting 2 more weeks to reveal…
Guys,
I appreciate everyone’s excitement over what I’m doing. I’m working on getting everything accurate so we can have definitive answers. I have been BOMB BARDED with emails and some PMS with people asking for info and pictures; I will post a topic when everything comes together. (I don’t wanna show favoritism to anyone.)
This started out as a topic of what I and several others believe was the mask that was used to help make the ‘Halloween 4’ mask and has turned into a history of ‘The Mask’ thread; which is pretty cool. Information is power.
I will post here more info as I get it about the copyright. Most of the info came from the 1986, 1987 Don Post Catalogs and some knowledge from veteran mask collectors that I have met. The 1986 earliest edition mask is a VERY rare one. I only know of 1 other mask collector that has one and when he showed it to me, I was quite shocked because it’s not what I was used to seeing: it’s small, it has lots of flesh tones and appears to be some what ‘Kirk’ based. I saw his 1986 ‘The Mask’ back in 1999…10 years ago and never saw another until 3 weeks ago.
Blake, yours does indeed look like it says 1985. Man… I think we’re all confused. That was my original argument, but the pic I took didn’t really hold up. Yours is a “5”. OMGZ IT’S SUPERS RARE… SELL NOW!!! j/k
Billy, this is a great thread man. No matter where it goes… I can’t wait to hear more after you talk to Post.
