Halloween 5 Knife... Dexter? NOPE!

I’m gonna go ahead and quote Ranshiie and Mr. Conal Cochran since they were particularly interested in this:

So pretty recently I was reviewing the definitive guide, seeing where I could make changes or updates. One thing I was checking up on were the knives (H2 elrod knives V1 and V2, H5,). That, along with the aforementioned members peaking my curiosity, and the recent discovery of the H4 knife I thought I’d check into them all, so I began taking some blu ray shots of the knives in each film.

The H5 was very apparently not a dexter, as long thought. The tapered handle shape was one dead giveaway, as well as the “lip” that you can see nearing the bolster, neither of which are apparent on most (or any, to my searching) Dexters:

So with that I took a look at some old vintage chefs knifes and thought for sure I’d found it with a vintage Gustav Emil Ern knife:

But obviously a handle shape is far from a definitive match, so I went frame by frame whenever the knife was shown, trying to find any kind of stamp. What I found next really surprised me!! Check out when Michael stabs the knife into the laundry chute:

Does that logo look familiar? It should! It’s an F. Herder ABR Sohn Germany stamp on a 10 inch knife. The exact same as the H4 knife!!

There is even a shot where we can see the “102-10” stamp (which I’ll upload tomorrow).

So there we have the H5 knife brand! Honestly, I also think that they may have used the screen used H4 knife for H5. They definitely didn’t use the same knife for continuity purposes, and I’d be absolutely stunned if it were coincidence that H5 production picked a knife at random that ended up to be the same rare brand and size knife as used in H4 production.
There are a few prop guys I’m gonna reach out to to get some more info on that, and I’ll also be trying to match some scratches, grime, or marks to confirm that theory. More on that coming!!

Enjoy!

I was trying to look at that chute scene as well, but there is no high quality video of it, unlike when I got those screenshots of the H4 knife’s lettering, those shots you got show it best, it’s funny that the H4 and 5 knives are the same brand, so you can easily just sell double the amount of the same one!

Could probably show even better if I got the digital Blu-ray for actual screenshots rather than taking photos of my TV

I would’ve never guessed they were the same brand, honestly haha. I’m pretty surprised by that!

I am too, it’s like the original mask being used in 1 and again in 2

Don tipped me off to who may still own that knife, so I’ll definitely be exploring that soon

Great work again skully! really glad this one was uncovered, though I dont think I’ve ever seen one of these on Ebay and such sadly so I guess they are rather uncommon. A dexter is still pretty close though, just not 100%. Good luck on finding the screenused too, I’d love to see how its faired

Thank you man . A dexter is still an amazing substitute imo, can barely tell the difference tbh!
They’re on eBay every once in a while but they’re pretty rare, even more expensive!

Awesome find man! That last shot you posted of the knife stabbing through the laundry chute is undeniable

Thanks! Agreed. Funny thing is I skipped right past that screenshot the first time

I have been looking into the knives as well. The chute scene is for sure the same as h4. But the behind the scenes pics, I’m not quite sure what knife they are using but it’s definitely not the same one. Especially looking at handle color, rivet placement and handle size. I asked Shanks what was the hero knife and he said Sheffield?? I was puzzled.

It’s a Forschner . At least judging off the handle shape, rivet placement, and construction. definitely not a Sheffield, I think Don may just be confused/mistaken on that. Only thing that puzzles me is if it’s 10” or 12”. In Don’s hand it appears to be 12”, but if that were the case it would look giant in Danielle’s which is doesn’t, making me think 10”- but if that were the case the reverse would be true and the 10” would not look that large in Don’s hand. So while the size is puzzling I’m 99.9% sure it’s Forschner.

It’s possible they used a stand in knife for the promotional shots. Using stand in props for promo shots is very common.
